Carpet per sqm

Mega exciting for a Sunday, I know!

If anyone has had carpet laid recently and knows the price they paid per sqm I would be very grateful. I've been quoted £900 for 2 average size rooms (labour separate). I will ask for a full breakdown but I think the carpet is between £20-25 sqm and wondering if it's worth going in and looking at cheaper ranges, they told me the sample was mid range.

We have the whole house to do eventually so having palpitations Blush
Thanks.

Where in the country are you? And what spec carpet are you looking for? Is underlay included?

Unless you are going to a carpet chain, which tend to be a bit of a rip off, £25 per sq.m should get you something very nice. Mid range should be a bit cheaper - around £15-£20, unless you are in the southeast:

There was another thread on friday about this. Some great tips and someone who works in a carpet shop had fantastic advice too. I'll post if I can find it.

I recently paid £29 a sqm for a Cromer carpet. The price included underlay and fitting. I had shopped around and that seemed a good ish price.

The total price per sq m for carpet underlay and fitting is £39. The carpet is Abingdon so mid range I think.

That is a local carpet supplier not a chain btw. Getting another local company out tomorrow to compare.

Ha I just did a very British thing around this yesterday, whereby I’d worked out the price in my head but when I got to the till it was £200 more than I expected it to be. In my head I was like ‘what the actual fuck!?’ but out loud I said ‘thank you very much’ and handed over my card.

I paid £28 and it us a really nice carpet but actually if I’d know I’d worked it out wrong I’d have gone for about £22. Our less used rooms have about £15 carpet.

Summersdreaming · 13/03/2022 18:15

Ahh that's what I would normally do! But we are only a few weeks into gutting this new house and everything is 50% more than I expected. I'll update when they give me the price per metre of the carpet itself, I've sent them a message for a breakdown.

We’re about to have Abingdon- they have a 10 year stain free guarantee. I was so disinterested in carpets but the Abingdon satin ones felt so lovely, I was vaguely excited. I think it’s £25 ish but we’re not moving so hope we’ll get a long life out of it.

we had Wilton for the lounge recently and with underlay and fitting worked out around £30 a sqm

MacaroniCheeseCat · 17/03/2022 20:41

We are literally about to have a room re-carpeted. It’s between 9m and 10m square. The actual carpet was about £15 per square metre and mid-range. They seemed to start from about £11 up to £25/as much as you wanted to pay.

The actual carpet, underlay and door bar (£10) has come to around £325, I think, and we pay cash for the fitting on top. That does include the cost of removing and disposing of the old carpet. Definitely make sure they break down the cost and that you understand whether it includes underlay, removal of old carpet if applicable, and door bars/grippers if needed.

This is SE (small independent business) and felt good value to me as I paid about £100 more to carpet an almost identically sized room about 10 years ago in London, albeit probably with a better quality carpet.

Summersdreaming · 18/03/2022 12:21

I went in, the Abingdon was reasonably priced - £17.99 so I think they overcharge on underlay and fixings! Although one room is 20m and one 12m. So I agreed to use a similar roll end in a walk in wardrobe to cut cost and they've upgraded the underlay to their thickest for "free" and I've got it to under £1000 all in. Thanks for your help.
