Cleaning paintbrushes - stupid question 🙈

Will water and washing up liquid clean thoroughly enough? Am cleaning chalk paint, wall paint and wax (on separate occasions but I use the same brushes for each, IYSWIM!) TIA.

I don’t know about the wax, but as long as a paint is water based, which most household paints are these days, then yes, water and washing up liquid are fine

Thanks @JudgeRindersMinder. 😊

You might need to use white spirit to clean off wax, that depends on the particular product. I've seen some furniture wax brands suggesting tools after using their wax can be cleaned up with soapy water. What does it say on your tin?

First rule, read the tin. If that's covered up with paint, go to manufacturer's website for info. Manufacturers have to provide a data sheet on request for paints and varnishes they sell.
My rule at work for my staff was 'never open a paint tin/glue pot until you have the requisite cleaning solvent right next to you'. That might be a bucket of water for water based paint, a can of turps or white spirit or meths as appropriate for other paints. Just thinking there was a can of appropriate solvent in the cupboard wasn't enough- we might just have run out, or someone else might have it elsewhere in the building. Get the solvent sorted before you start!
