Aborted smart meter installation

Has anyone had issues with getting a smart meter installed?

Guy came today and had installed the new electric meter and hub but when he switched the power on it tripped the switches on the consumer unit. Tried resetting and then turning power on but again they tripped. He seemed to say it's an issue with our type of consumer unit (MEM 2000 i think) and the signal from the hub is interfering with the consumer unit even though he'd placed the hub as far down the board as he could get it.

After calling his tech help desk he was told to put the old meter back in place so he did.

What a waste of everyone's time! The only reason I said yes was because they had told us the gas meter needs replaced as its over 20 years old so don't know what will happen now

Gas meter won't need replacing. Energy companies have targets to hit to fit smart meters, so they will say anything to get one fitted

I know my electric meter got replaced a few years ago as they said it was past its lifespan and that was before smart meters were a thing. I've emailed octopus about it anyway to see what they say

Happened to me.
We have no mobile signal. I told them that unless their smart mter could run on wifi it wouldn't work, but they insisted they had a magic way of finding a mobile signal.
Man turns up, swaps meters, faffs around for two hours. His magic mobile signal booster couldn't find a signal.
Swaps meters back.

Ah, we had ours installed recently via Octopus and the installer spoke about this and said that certain types of consumer unit (of which ours is apparently one) could cause tripping due to the material used for the box covering or something. Luckily ours ended up being fine, but it does seem it's a 'thing'.

I had exactly the same experience as BirdOnTheWire

Company told us they had to fit a new smart metre and I had to take the day off work to get it done.... Man shows up, messes about in the cupboard under the stairs for about an hour before asking 'do you get 4g round here?' I point out that we are surrounded by fields and without WiFi there is nothing. He then tells me that it can't be done - I complained to the company but they didn't care. We switched companies shortly afterwards.

We had them fitted and then they couldn't get any signal, didn't take them out though, left them in so they are smart but we still need to do readings until they pick up a signal.
