Anybody live here or the surrounding area and can give me a heads up of what it’s like to actually live here rather than just visit?

Ideally wanted to move to Cambridge but don’t have Cambridge budget! And lots of the surrounding areas seem a bit too quiet.

Dd wants a coffee shop within walking distance 🙄, dogs want nice interesting places to walk, I want a 3 bed with decent size garden pref older rather than new build.

If not Ely can anyone give me some ideas of places that might suit. Not much on market at moment so I need to narrow down my search so we can grab what comes along!

Planning a day trip that way next week…

Last summer at Ely - I think it's gorgeous.

Market info. Cambridge is absolutely lovely too but I would rather live close to the middle of Ely than several miles outside Cambridge (e.g. Waterbeach and I think you get more for your money in Ely.

Oh that is gorgeous.
Thank you all so much for your help. Feeling a bit more confident about upping sticks and moving now.

The markets sound good. I have nothing I can walk to from home here, apart from fields. Everything is a schlepp down a dual carriageway to get to the same shops I’ve gone to for 40odd years!!

@honeyandbutterontoast if you’re coming to visit. Parking is free everywhere, but beware Waitrose Car Park. You can only get 2 hours for free there and they do enforce it.

Waves at the other Ely dwellers

If you want to avoid using your car for everything, don’t look at the Ely villages, public transport is awful, and everyone drives everywhere. However not the case in Ely. As people have said, lots of lovely walks, city centre is small, not many clothes shops, especially for teens. The bookshop is amazing, and the events mean I’ve seen some really famous authors in Ely, sometimes at quite small events. The market is fab, and was getting very good for vegan food. Not a huge choice for eating out in the evening, some some good Indians, the Turkish is nice and the new sushi place is fab.

Being in Ely puts you on the train line to lots of places, including London

Saw it. Loved it :)
Has a lovely feel about the place I thought.
Now just have to wait for something to come on the market!!!

Thanks for all the help.
