Soil pipe goes through floor in middle of house. Is this bad?

Viewed a house today and noticed the soil pipe is boxed in and goes down into the ground through the floor of the house, rather than outside. I haven’t bought a house before so not sure how common this is or whether it’s a problem. I’m imagining leaks?!
Couldn’t see any manholes around the exterior of the house (a lot of which is patio slabs) so I can’t see how any blockages would be found and fixed. It’s a victorian/edwardian house, having been extended many times, so old plumbing, but then I can only suppose there’ve been no problems so far? House hasn’t been sold since before 1995.

Would this put you off buying?

It would put me off!

My BIL’s house has the soil pipe coming down in the it kitchen diner due to the massive extension they put on the house. The extension was done within the last 5 years so it’s all up to date planning and regulations etc.
It wouldn’t bother me

I've lived in a 1940s ex council property snd a 1930s semi. Hey have both had internal soil pipes.

It’s building regs now apparently you have to put them inside. We’re having an extension built and I queried this with our architect as he’d put a soil pipe in our kitchen. He said it’s requirement now not to put them outside?? Anyway I’ve lived in two houses with boxed in soil pipes in the kitchen and both were fine. So in answer to your question no it wouldn’t put me off.

Oh thanks this is reassuring!

What about the manhole issue?

I grew up in a victorian house and every so often it there would be a drain blockage, which we would usually sort out by hosing a load of water down the manhole in the garage, or getting the drains people out who would deal with it through the manhole. So I am a bit concerned about what happens if there was a block but no manhole nearby to open up and find the issue?
It is a mid terraced house though- I suppose not all houses have their own manhole!

It's standard. We've just built a house and all soil pipes and other ducting is through the bottom of the house.
