Fixing a toilet to the soil pipe?

Paging @pigletjohn again Grin After yesterday's shower dilemma I'm now moving onto the toilet..

I'm wondering, if you choose a new toilet, does the soil outlet at the back have to match up exactly with the hole in the wall? I'm wondering if you can get away with the two being misaligned vertically, the new toilet outlet being either slightly higher or lower? If choosing a new toilet that doesn't exactly match up means having to move the wall soil pipe I can't do it. I can't afford the scaffold costs on top of the bathroom work. I hope this makes sense. Many thanks

They make flexi pan connectors for this.

However, in our experience, it can mean a slight issue when dealing with…larger loads needing to be flushed.
We now have a suitable tool for aiding dispatch stored behind the toilet Blush 🤮

not lower, since it does not flow uphill.

flexis are undesirable.

I know that the esteemed PigletJohn does not like flexible connectors but if that is what you have to do then that is what you use. We have used them at least twice (we fit our own bathrooms/toilets) never had an issue. There are soil pipe connectors which are angled and you always want your toilet to be higher than the soil pipe.

There are lots of videos on YouTube showing you how to connect your toilet to the soil pipe. My advice, wear a mask when you remove the toilet Grin and have a plastic bag ready to pop over the pipe until you are ready to connect the new toilet.

Yeah, you're telling me what I thought, it has to be level or higher. I did wonder whether a good whoosh of water might compensate for a slight lift up but I'm happy to be corrected. Thanks guys.

we had a situation where the soil pipe connector was 2 inches higher than it should have been. We bought a toilet that was designed for primary schools, so the distance from floor to loo seat was lower the normal. then the builder put 2 inches of wood under the 'floor' part of the toilet bowl, which meant that the exit pipe of the toilet was 2 inches higher than normal and perfectly matched the pipe. the toilet seat was then at a normal height and the extra wood was painted white so you didn't really notice it.

hope that description makes sense - I can do a diagram if needed.
