Do you think construction-related prices are inflated for good?

We’ve got several house-related jobs in the pipeline, but we are wondering if we should bite the bullet and do them now or if we should hold off for a year or two to see if the supply chain and labour shortage issues dissipate and prices stabilize. With the war, I worry that the price of materials might only get worse due to even more supply chain disruption, but it is really hard to say. The jobs aren’t urgent, but we will do them at some point, and if inflation keeps going like this, perhaps it is better to do things sooner rather than later. Do you think prices are only just going to keep increasing, or will things eventually ease up and return to normal?

I had some building supplies delivered the other day. I asked the driver about wood prices, he said plain wood like planks are very slowly coming down, but sheets of wood aren’t.
With the fact that petrol prices haven’t come back down and are rising, my guess is that prices will not go much lower and most likely rise.

I work in construction, mainly in elec and mech. It takes around 1 year after a recession for construction businesses to go bust or scale back. Once this happens, prices will fall as will tradesmens prices. We are starting to see it now with a couple of our smaller customers. If there is no money to build, prices will come down. We have managed to survive the 90s recession and 2008, but this one will be hard to deal with.
