Is this a reasonable quote?

Need to get a new roof on the house, been told it has around 1-2 years left in it, but all the wind we've had recently has been really stressful (although came through it with only a couple of loose tiles) so decided we want to get it done before next winter, and we're starting to get some quotes together.

We've had our first quote, so for full roof, gutters and facings cleaned (they said that they were in good condition so didnt need replaced), plus cost of scaffolding, skip hire and labour, £5600.

With nothing really to base it on, i thought the cost was going to be closer to £10k, so am pleasantly surprised by this, but as i say, this was based on nothing so not really a good benchmark!

Does this seem reasonable? Its a semi detached property so a fairly straightforward roof i suppose.

That sounds good, especially considering recent price rises.
Our was closer to £10k (outskirts of London, 4 years ago) but we had a slate roof and wanted like-for-like replacement.

I guess that depends on what they are doing when you say "full roof". Are they replacing the tiles or reusing the existing tiles? Does the timber, etc all need to be replaced?

You'd be better to get a few comparative quotes and ask for a full breakdown of of work.

How big is your house and what is the shape of the roof? And what is included in "full roof"?

MarieG10 · 03/03/2022 12:29

It depends on what they are doing. With an old roof you might need the trusses replacing or strengthening. Another factor is it is a shame to do half a roof....is the neighbours side ok as getting it all done would be better

Dh priced a new roof on a standard semi yesterday for £5800. However so many things can alter the price so it’s hard for anyone else to guide for your roof.
We are in Yorkshire so would guess prices down south would be higher.

Sounds reasonable to me.
