Ceiling paint/Trim/Coving

Having spent a small (big) fortune on Edward Bulmer and F&B paint I’m wondering if I should use the same companies for the white ceilings, coving, windows etc.

Compared with Johnstone’s, Dulux, Crowne which offer basic shades such as brilliant white.

After spending so much would you risk going for a brilliant white from a cheaper brand or go with a much more expensive paint as with walls?

Has anyone had a good result with cheaper paint for the coving, ceiling etc?

Walls are a mid tone colour.

@ChiefInspectorParker

Thanks for that advice, before I read it I had ordered All White hoping it’d be a generally sympathetic choice to the wall colour scheme. However I think you’re right and think I’ll exchange for a more complementary shade within the range.

Conversely, I have Dulux Brilliant White on all my ceilings/coving/picture rails - my F&B, Little Greene, Zoffany etc. paint on my walls still looks lovely!

@Tillsforthrills - We have done similar to the poster above – lots of FB pointing / ammonite / tallow on walls but Dulux White on ceiling and Dulux matte eggshell on woodwork (sash windows).

Lighting makes a huge difference = harsh electric light v softer shaded lighting makes a lot of difference in what it looks like. Daylight v electric light really changes the look too.

I think it generally works for Dulux white against the FB 'neutrals' but can be problematic for strong colours - eg FB Brinjal looks lovely against FB Pointing but against full on Dulux white the white is too harsh in my view.

Tallow FB walls
Dulux white ceiling

I just think shade, shadow, lighting make such a difference that I'm not convinced it is worth paying more for ceiling paint.

But to me this hasn't worked...
too harsh with Dulux white against FB Brinjal and will repaint the basic white with FB pointing for this bit when I have time...

Final pic of FB Brinjal with tallow on walls then pointing on picture rail - and basic Dulux white above...

I think this works just about. Juries out tbh...

Hubby is a real Dulux white fan, so we compromised halfway down the wall 😆
I'm still wondering if it should all be pointing above picture rail too... but I'd still go a proper white ceiling.

But in softer lighting it all blends out, I've just wound up the dimmer to show you the most impact.

Same corner but just with softer side table lighting not the main light...

But interestingly the contrast is much harsher on this pic than it looks to the naked eye...

Mmm not sure this solves your issue really!
