Moving from London to Sheffield

Hi folks,

Any advice on where is best to relocate to in Sheffield from London? DH has just secured a new teaching job in Longley, North Sheffield and we have a 3yr old in tow and I'm pregnant with our 2nd due in May so we are on the search for somewhere with good primary schools and where I won't feel lonely on mat leave with a newborn! Need access to toddler and baby friendly spaces and facilities in relative walking distance. As I'll be on mat leave we're looking either to rent or buy somewhere on a smaller budget before I go back to work again in a year or so. Not 100% sure on budget yet but below £300k is probably realistic at this stage. I've heard Totley & Dore are lovely but are they ok in terms of things to do with babies and toddlers? I guess our budget won't go as far in the nicer areas and it would be lovely to have 4 bedrooms to have one for visiting family from the south! Any tips gratefully received x

The rivelin property linked look amazing value for money to me. I dont know that area that well to know if that's a dodgier part but rivelin valley is lovely for kids.

This is nice and within budget although will probably go for a higher price.

Schools aren’t as good in S6 though.

No I agree they aren't as good as some of the other areas. There aren't that many outstanding in total although the primary schools are nice and very community based.

Secondary aren't so good, however Tapton catchment covers parts of S6.

Considering the ages of your children I would worry more about primary catchment.

I used to teach at Tapton, I’m not sure it covers S6. It covers S3. It’s like a slice of cake from Lodge Moor the city centre outskirts. It covers Netherthoroe, but not Upperthorpe which is King Teds l think.

Hello,
I live in Hillsborough with a 2.5 year old and next baby is due in May. We love living here. The local amenities are really good. It’s also relatively flat! There are lots of other family friendly areas such as s8,s7,s11 but you get a lot more space for your money around here. I like the fact that most things are within walking distance but you can also get the tram or bus. The area has changed a lot since I moved here in 2016.

Completely wrong about Woodseats. It is a brilliant area for families. Beautiful houses around the Abbey Lane end of Woodseats, close to both Graves and Millhouses Parks and good primary schools. Also a lot of new cafes/bars opening making it more vibrant - Forge Bakehouse, Chantry Press, Boston Arms in last six months. It’s a hidden gem but probably not for much longer!

Also the primary schools are good in Woodseats/Beauchief. Abbey Lane primary has been rated good consistently by Ofsted.
