Is a crack across the ceiling like this a concern?

Is it plasterboard or lathe and plaster?

GiantKitten · 25/02/2022 21:47

It’s a straight line - could be the joint between 2 pieces of plasterboard? Has it been patch-filled?

(I have a feeling a crooked crack would be more of a concern, but I don’t know)

I’m not sure what it is made out of, it’s in a flat I am buying, I have a full building survey being done next week but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas

It’s not clear enough, any more photos? How old is the property?

We have a crack like that and it’s just been put down to movement over time and a crack in the plaster.

NobodysGonnaKnow · 26/02/2022 09:07

We have a house that’s prone to cracked ceilings. Apparently it’s to do with large gaps between the joists. We even had them reboarded and plastered they still have cracked along the plasterboard join line. In our case it’s nothing serious but it’s something you might want to get an opinion on.

Our house has cracks like that. The surveyor put it down to “seasonal movement” and nothing to worry about unless they get very large.

Thanks everyone! As I say surveyor is going round next week but feeling a bit reassured by the responses. House is late Victorian
