Looking for this Electric Checking Wand/Device

Hi all :) Are you familiar with this electric device/wand please? (**will explain below) , or do you know anyone who is an Electric Engineer and can recommend me any reasonable one please?

Recently our boiler broke and we had an engineer around. until we get the new one fitted we have to use Immersion Boiler (Immersion tank?) which is already in the house but never really used it before.

According to this engineer guy (British Gas actually) this Immersion Boiler's switch is a bit temperamental.
Indeed I tried it with him to switch on/off (flicking up and down the switch bit). he used and showed me this device ( **white chunky pen like electric checking wand, which lights up in red if electricity is going through )

He put the wand against braided cable -pic attached- to show me how it works BUT he couldn't leave that wand with me.
I did definitely see the switch is temperamental when we tested.

so I thought I should just get the wand so I don't have to wonder around after switching it on in the morning...Sad

Thank you for taking your time reading (also asking someone about this!) xx

They all do pretty much the same thing though, they wouldn’t be allowed to sell them if they didn’t work.
Have a look on b & Q website, they may have their own brand cheaper.

Yes, just look up voltage tester pens. Should be able to get a cheap one from B&Q/Amazon/Screwfix/The Range that'll do what you want for under £10

that's true, they should do all work or do similar thing (how funny price vary so much tho)
bought the £7.49 one from Screwfix and looks like it just works fine
(I think little kids might find this pen interesting)
