Ineffective trickle vents

Hello, any advice please?
Our bedroom windows are all covered in condensation in the mornings. I window vac them, and scrub away the black mould that appears on the seals overnight.
We sleep with bedroom doors open, the house generally isn't damp, but the windows don't have a latch facility to leave them open a crack.
Is there any way to make trickle vents more effective? I'm not ready to replace the windows yet.

Have you checked the vents aren't blocked? Depends what shape they are but might be worth a prod with a pipe cleaner or similar.

I had brand new trickle vents put in and they made no difference whatsoever. I think they only help with very mild condensation problems :(

We had the same problem window vaccing every morning sometimes collecting well over half a container of water just from the bedroom windows and cleaning black mould regularly. Unusually it hadn’t happened for a couple of weeks which I just put down to the weather not being too cold in January.

Then I noticed my daughter had left the top window in her bedroom opened a couple of weeks after she went back to uni after Christmas. I closed it and the condensation was back with a vengeance the following morning, so a penny dropped I opened it again and the condensation did not occur. Since then we leave it open permanently and the problem has totally disappeared.

Take them off and see what size holes if any are through the windows. I have known of people fitting them for show only back when the regs made them more or less mandatory.

Ours are very effective but we put as many 13mm holes through the frame as would fit behind the vents.

Have you tried using a dehumidifier? I've got the Meaco Low Energy 12 Litre from Argos and it's fantastic, works as an air purifier too, and it's amazing how much moisture it removes from the air! I just run it now and then to get the humidity down to keep dust mites down as hubby has asthma and allergies! If you don't want to spend that much, you can get a humidity measure to see if your levels are too high first :)
