Electrical work cost

I’m having a new kitchen installed by the shop I’m buying it from. I’ve been given a reasonable quote for the dry fit but the extras seem extortionate.

My house is 25 years old. In the kitchen I need 6 new double sockets, one socket moving slightly, I’m upgrading from 16 amp to a hob which needs a 32 amp fuse, replacement of 7 spotlights.

I don’t think it’s a huge amount of work but the fitters have quoted in the region of £5000!

Which one of us is delusional?

Blimey Shock
We are waiting a quote for similar for our kitchen, a bit less work but I am thinking more like £500-£1,000! I may be shocked...

Consider asking the kitchen place for a different fitter. They will get a fixed amount for the kitchen so the extras is where they make all the money. So they are trying to mark up all the profit on the extras.

That is utterly crazy and taking the mick.

I had my whole extension wired up and 40 odd spotlights done for that and they were brand new circuits. Get quotes from different electricians

I’ve decided the use the fitters for a dry fit only as the extras are insanely priced. The fitters quoted £2k+ for tiling the walls, a local tiler quoted £400 for the same job.
I have an electrician coming next week who I’ve used before and I anticipate he’ll be much cheaper.

I recently had a 3 bed semi rewired including adding in extra sockets and that was £2500 so I'd say definitely overcharging.

22Newnames · 25/02/2022 20:20

Our quote has just come through at £1,500 which was more than I was expecting but far lower than yours.

cashmerecardigans · 25/02/2022 20:23

That's mad. I've just had a 3 bed house rewire for just under 3k

SNUG2022 · 25/02/2022 20:24

Dh said he would need more details to know exactly. Work and materials about £700 but would depend on cooker cable etc.

Sockpile · 26/02/2022 13:33

@SNUG2022 that seems much more reasonable!

OH is an electrician. That’s more like a rewire cost. Find your own electrician Smile

Tiredmummy123456 · 26/02/2022 18:36

Wow! We had the whole house rewired 4 years ago for 5 and a half grand! I know costs have gone up, but that sounds really steep!

Summersdreaming · 26/02/2022 20:19

I'm having a 5 bed rewired for less than that.
