Extension on boundary

We live in a detached property with one side of the house on the boundary line. We would like to extend at the back but our neighbor has an old outbuilding close to the boundary. If we extend, our wall will be less than a meter away from their outbuilding. The outbuilding is less than 2.5m in hight and is not connected to their property. Just wondered if anyone on here knows if we can legally extend? Thank you

People extend semis, an outbuilding is not necessarily an issue

Semis and detached boundary issues are different. You're not supposed to build within 1m of your neighbor's property that you're not already attached to.

When you say an outbuilding is not necessarily a problem, can you give me some more detail please?

Where have you read this?

Thanks. Does that include an outbuilding that's not attached?

Sorry, I thought you were copying and pasting my reply!Confused Let me find a link. We've dealt with extensions before and the 1m rule has applied.

There is a 1 metre rule for building regs but that is waived if the structure is made of fireproof materials.

Ok, thank you. That's really helpful info. The outbuilding is an old stone structure that they've just put a new roof on and ours will of course be fireproof, so I'd say it's at least worth engaging a professional. We don't want to get our hopes up if it's a complete no go because of the 1m rule.
