First time buyer stamp duty relief

May I have some help regarding the interpretation of the first time buyer who is eligible for the stamp duty relief?

www.gov.uk/government/publications/stamp-duty-land-tax-relief-for-first-time-buyers-guidance-note

e.g. I am sole purchaser of the property and I fulfil the definition of first time buyer as stated in the guidance note (in the link). Would there be any impact on my status as a first time buyer (to get the stamp duty relief), if my spouse owned a dwelling before but he won't be the purchaser of the property I am going to buy (i.e. it's not a joint purchase, I am the sole buyer)?

I received mixed views on this question. Tried to search on the internet but it seems not very clear. would appreciate some thoughts on it.

Thank you!

They’re not putting any money in at all? You’re a first time buyer.

If they’re not putting any money towards it or going on the mortgage then you’re a first time buyer

Thanks! yes, spouse is not putting any money.

Do they still own a property? If so, then you aren’t eligible, regardless of whether they’re putting any money in or being a joint owner. If they no longer own property, you’re eligible.

Thanks. They no longer own any property, so I believe I should be eligible
