Small kitchen - larder cupboard or worktop space?

Hello All,

Designed and ordered a kitchen but thinking I have made a mistake. Its a 3x6m square but with 3 doors going into/out of it which means one side is totally unusable.

I have a lot of dishes and opted for larder cupboard, wall mounted single oven and microwave and a tall larder cupboard (to house everything). Aside from that we have 2 cupboards, washing machine and dishwasher. We have designed for a small peninsular to hold a hob and drawers (the only way we can fit).

My dilema

Is it better to have more worktop space or a larder cupboard?

For insight, we host a LOT and cook a lot of curries abd different dishes and will need places to put down dishes and platters as they're being transported from kitchen to diner

I would consider moving the oven so it doesn't hog that worktop in the middle which will be where people congregate. As you cook you will have chopping boards/pans and clutter nearby which will eat up precious room.

It's a really small space. Will you ever have two people trying to work in it? I can't imagine squeezing past that peninsula or trying to open a cupboard. I would use more worktop and get rid of 2 of the tall cupboards. Add some storage in your dining room such as a sideboard, or have a back up pantry cupboard somewhere.

I can't quite figure out the pics, they seem too square for a 3 X 6 space.

We have similar width and door limitations but less length. I prioritised worktop space and am absolutely delighted with the result. My compromise was putting the oven under the counter, and the microwave in the utility room.

Also I use wall cabinets for all my dry goods, and instead of a larder cupboard I use a tall shallow cabinet for all the plates, glasses etc. I love it this way round. All the food is to hand by the worktop, and all the crockery is next to the dishwasher for easy unloading.

I think you'd regret not having more work surface space.

Depending what your work surface is made from; you could 'plug the sink'.
I.E. use the off-cut piece of quartz cut out for the sink hole, get it attached to the underside of a square / rectangular piece of quartz slightly larger than the sink hole et voila - you have an extra 60cm [or so] section of useable work space.
