Can this wall be salvaged?

Just stripped off 3 or 4 layers of lining paper to find this below. I think it is where the scraping and paste has pulled the first layer of paint off the wall. The house is only 25 years old so the plaster isn’t so old but these patches are all over the room.

Is there any salvaging this or do I need to bite the bullet and get it skimmed? I don’t mind paying for the plasterer however they are like gold dust around here!

I wonder if the wall was mist coated before the original paint; it shouldn't come off like that if prepared properly. I'd be tempted to sand a test patch to see if I could get a smooth surface to paint, then proceed as if the plaster is new. Good luck!

Depends on the finish you're going for. A run over the rough patches with a sander & a few coats of good paint can hide a lot...

I mean I would like a smooth finish but can live with a few rough patches. My original plan was to sand walls then prep with a primer to seal the wallpaper paste before painting again. Gin I hate decorating!

With patience you can get a fairly smooth finish. You need to fill it, sand, fill it sand. Then a coat of a standard white paint. You’ll then see where you still need to fill and sand again. I had this in my 1970s house. Recommend mixing your own filler rather than anything pre-mixed. Depends how much patience you have. I didn’t have the budget for a plaster and got a good finish in the end myself.
