Moving boxes

Can anyone recommend where to buy some sturdy but reasonably priced moving boxes? I've put feelers out on lots of local groups for free ones, but not getting responses so will just have to buy some!

EBay?

Finfintytint · 18/02/2022 09:56

Try the supermarkets. I picked up plenty from them when we moved.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 18/02/2022 09:57

Go to your local shops and they have stacks of them out back (I got 40 boxes free from M&co). Just ask them.

I always bought from Argos; their cardboard wardrobes are really useful

Mischance · 18/02/2022 10:11

Garden centres often have big boxes - and places like Currys.

Peeeas · 18/02/2022 10:12

Have you tried Freecycle? Usually loads being advertised near us!

Dougieowner · 18/02/2022 19:53

eBay.
Several firms sell the boxes they have their products delivered in, far better than single use Amazon or supermarket boxes.

Twin-wall, very strong and suitable for stacking, available in several sizes.
Most firms were selling them for £10 for 10 Inc delivery.

I got loads from Facebook marketplace.

You're not in the West Mids are you op? My parents have just moved and we're swimming with sturdy packing boxes that we'd love to get rid of!

AwkwardPaws27 · 18/02/2022 20:31

Wilko sell them, & rolls of bubble wrap

Ruralbliss · 18/02/2022 21:24

I am @another365togo and just about to buy a load of boxes. Can I message you to find out if we are near enough to take some off your parents' hands?

Dougieowner · 18/02/2022 21:30

Anyone.
I am about to FB a lot of our boxes and loads of bubble-wrap, feel free to PM me to see if we are near each other.

Alexaplaysomething · 18/02/2022 21:44

Amazon. StorePak large boxes, around £30 for 10 large boxes you get a surprising amount in them.
I've just moved using 2 sets and they are now flat packed ready for someone else to use. They were great.

Jaffacakeman · 19/02/2022 01:59

Are you anywhere near Rugby.
Could do with done boxes as I am about to move

FedUpOfLighteningCrotch · 19/02/2022 02:06

You’re telling me you haven’t got a million lidl bags you’ve been subconsciously saving up for years to move house?

Because that’s what we’ve just done Grin we struggled to find boxes too, so we got a few we needed for various things and then we decided to put the years worth of reusable lidl bags to good use.

The longer carry handles are perfect for tying up after you’ve filled the bag! We pretty much just used boxes for glass and other fragiles.

TheNoonBell · 19/02/2022 08:22

We got them off Amazon as it was lockdown, not that cheap but arrived very promptly so as we started to run out we just ordered more.

RidingMyBike · 19/02/2022 08:26

Freecycle or Olio - I got rid of all of our moving boxes this way to four people (we had lots of boxes!).

RidingMyBike · 19/02/2022 08:27

We found a lot of boxes were too big - you need smaller boxes for heavy stuff like kitchen contents and books as otherwise they're too heavy to lift.

Hopeislost · 19/02/2022 09:09

Thank you for all the responses.I'm in London and don't have a car so I can't take up your kind offers.

I will have a chat with the local corner shop, that's a great shout! And we have lots of big supermarket bags (DH always forgets to take them!) so the bag suggestion is great thanks!

Self storage centres sell them

another365togo · 19/02/2022 13:30

@Ruralbliss Yes, please do message!

Dougieowner · 19/02/2022 14:33

We moved twice in the past 5-months (a requirement of buying a new build is not to be in a chain so you have to sell and move into temporary accommodation) and both times the removal companies commended us on our packing (90% of our items remained boxed during our temp stay). They told us of the various ways people "pack" their prized items and then act in disbelief that the companies will either not take them or will provide no cover for damage.
Good, strong boxes and plenty of bubble-wrap are the way to go.
For pictures, bubble-wrap them then place inside large boxes that have been flatened to provide a thick, strong cardboard envelope. If you have large prints (like we do) this means sourcing extra large boxes.

Bonbon21 · 19/02/2022 14:37

Kite packaging.. look under cardboard boxes.. then removal packaging.. sorry cant do link..

Salome61 · 19/02/2022 14:37

www.kitepackaging.co.uk - the double bunded ones. stack easily and have lasted two moves for me, their tape and dispenser are good too.

Salome61 · 19/02/2022 14:38

Sorry we crossed posts, good two people are recommending them.
