What would you change if you could

I have a lovely big bath.

Mwnci123 · 17/02/2022 19:15

But if I were doing the bathroom again I'd look at getting a towel drying radiator that you can turn on separately front the rest of the heating, if there is such a thing.

Chasingsquirrels · 17/02/2022 19:20

I'd change the layout.
It could fit a separate bath and shower cubicle, but would need plumbing work.
As I use my ensuite and the main bathroom is only used by the kids it's never seemed worth the expense and hassle.
I'd also move the toilet so it isn't the main view from the hallway.

Itsmemaggie · 17/02/2022 19:25

Underfloor heating - probably using those electric strips/ pads.

BigSkies22 · 17/02/2022 19:31

Large tiles with epoxy-based grout in a matching colour. Looks expensive, elegant and is easier to keep clean. Mitred tiles and the way the fitter lined everything up so the nook and so on are all symmetrical and harmonious. Lights (recessed spots and wall lights) on a dimmer switch.

What I hate and can't change - hard water area, constant battle with limescale.

WellTidy · 17/02/2022 19:36

Love the amount of storage - we have a large under sink unit with drawers and lots of compared space. It is deep and wide. I get loads in there.

Also have a wooden chest in there for towels that we also sit on, put our clothes so that they’re off the floor etc.

I am a sucker for masses of storage.

What would I change? I’d like one of those mirrors that you can turn on so that it doesn’t get steamed up.

Meeee tooooo! I so, so wish ours was electric, not connected to the heating.

We have one that runs off heating in winter but we can turn it on separately in summer as it has its own electric heating element.

Things I love
Large wall cabinet (HIB brand) with 2 separate charging sockets inside. Means we can charge toothbrush and razor at same time and never have to switch cables. We also have a shaver socket on wall for water jet.

Yes, there is. We have one, and it is lovely for having your towels warm even if you don't have the heating on. Smile
Kite22 · 17/02/2022 20:07

I love that we are lucky enough to have a lot of space. When the dc were little I could have 2 of them in the bath, one in the shower and a chair in there for me to sit on Smile

I would like one of those mirrors that doesn't steam up.

This is your second thread on the same subject OP

I'd move the door over by 6 inches so we can fit a shower in. Has been on our to-do list for yonks.
I'd also change the basin for a nicer one (it's a funny shape) and put a cupboard under.

Longhairmightcare · 17/02/2022 21:07

We recently had bathroom redone and the things I love about it are:

We have put the towel radiator at the end of the bath (opposite end to shower obvs) so nice warm towel immediately to hand when turn shower off.

Storage: one of those wall hung sinks with massive drawer tall enough for typical cleaning products and shampoo bottles etc.
Keep toothbrush caddy in here too.
Wall cabinet for smaller unguents and potions. EVERYTHING is stored in either of these 2 things, so NO bottles/toothbrushes around bath sink. So much easier to keep clean, just grab what needed for shower from drawer and back in after.

Cabinet is wired in, fog free. Has shaver outlet ~inside~ to charge elec toothbrushes, no more stupid toothbrush charger lying around in random other rooms.
Can use cabinet lighting as softer mood lighting when not in mood for the overhead lights.
Oh yes, moved light switch to outside of door - no more string pull to get grubby.

Back to wall toilet, coupled with wall mounted sink = no more nooks and crannies behind toilet/sink to gather dust grime = very easy to clean with spray mop.

Moved over-bath shower to opposite end to sink so now has clearance for screen to open/close properly getting in/out.

Changed floor tiles to vinyl - softer/warmer/easier to clean

Swapped extractor fab to ‘silent’ model so doesn’t wake household up in night.

It’s only a small big-standard bathroom (excuse the pun) but these changes have made all the difference.

Longhairmightcare · 17/02/2022 21:09

*bog standard bathroom!! Totally ruined my pun Blush

frazzled101 · 17/02/2022 21:11

The power button for the shower is at the entrance to the shower rather than under the shower head.

I actually read that tip on Mumsnet and used it when I got my bathroom done last year.

My shower is also open on one end, and I can reach into a wall hung tallboy from it so there's never any bottles lying around the shower.

We have underfloor heating which is great. It is electric.

We also have a towel dryer on the wall, but we are in Canada where boilers and hot water heat are fairly unusual, so the towel rack is electric also. After spending time in England there was no way I was doing without one. It is on a timer and we have lovely warm dry towels.

The heated floor is also on a timer/thermostat.

Love both.

I don't really like the LED lights over the mirrors. They aren't bright enough for my old eyes so I have a separate lighted makeup mirror.

Absolutely love the IKEA cabinets we used, especially the pantry type one. I could hid anything in there. We have deep drawers for all our towels. Our countertop height is slightly higher than normal as DH and I are both tall.

We splurged on a Panasonic exhaust fan after seeing it on a dyi tv show. It is amazing (ensuite bath with no window which is common here). You can hardly hear it and removes steam and smells in seconds. Highly recommend.

Notmyyearthisyear · 17/02/2022 21:33

So what? Maybe they enjoy it?

Chewbecca · 17/02/2022 21:37

Very pleased with the heated mirror and the magnifying makeup mirror on an arm.

One small regret is the gaos on my towel rail are too narrow - it would be better with fewer bars.

Chewbecca · 17/02/2022 21:37

Gaps not gaos

Popetthetreehugger · 17/02/2022 21:46

Good thing , water softener… so 3 years on , glass shower screen is pristine 🙌 I wish we’d splashed out a bit more and gone for deep draws instead of cupboards under the sinks .
