Two tone hallway ideas

We live in a Victorian Terrace so hallway is fairly narrow and dark. We have a dado rail and would like to go for two colours, one below and one above. DP and I are struggling to agree. I like greens or maybe blues, he prefers greys. Floor is also going to be sanded (original floorboards) and we will choose the floor colour according to paint colours so open to ideas there too. Stair carpet also yet to be decided.
Can anyone inspire us? If you would like to share pictures, even better!

Mercedesbenz and dogsandgin, it hadn't occurred to me that we might go darker at the top and lighter at the bottom. They both look great.

I REALLY don't want grey by the way! I just need to find an acceptable alternative.

You can buy metallic paint for walls, looks fantastic if anyone wants a copper or even rose gold,

@ClaudiaWankleman

I also have a very narrow hallway and original floorboards - I wouldn't stain them (sounds like you're planning to in your OP?). Keep them as light as possible as it really does make the space feel as big as possible.

I'd go for a lighter colour on the bottom and darker on top, to keep the sense of open floor space and cosy walls. @MercedesBenz above is really very nice.

The floor needs sanding and we were thinking that we might keep it really light if we chose a darkish wall colour and then possibility go darker if the walls are lighter. I like the idea of lighter at the bottom and darker at the top. It looks lovely in the pictures here.

@hallwaypainthelp

Thanks all. Lemonviolet- I think he's just saying grey as he doesn't know what to suggest! He's being very non specific about his choices but vetoing all mine!
Ugh I hear you on this my partner does this all the bloody time! He has no suggestions for anything to do with style or design choice himself, just says no to everything I like. I said the other day his favourite style is “not that” Grin. Thankfully we’re reaching the point where he just eyerolls slightly and let’s me crack on, accepting it means more to me.

In which case ignore the grey suggestion and just come up with an awesome scheme of your own. Order tonnes of testers, make massive samples to stick all over and let him see how fab your choice will be.

We sanded our hall floor back and had it stained with a white wash. Bloody awful idea - always looked absolutely filthy with mud and footprints. Now it’s been stained Jacobean oak which is much more practical with DC and bikes, dogs etc.

I have my favourite colour below the dado (possibly too outing to say which colour, but it’s probably not your favourite) and then had the upper walls, ceiling and woodwork all painted in Slipper Satin which is an aged-looking white from Farrow and Ball. Painting the upper walls and ceiling in the same colour was a game-changer.

We used to have Light Blue from F&B but it always looked so bleak and dingy, even if more tasteful.

We’ve got F&B Wevet on top and De Nimes from dado rail down in modern emulsion, it’s great!

I think blue or grey are cold for a hallway. I like light on the bottom warm on the top like the ones posted earlier. If he really does like grey you could look at sage or smokey greens.

I suggest white underneath and F&B Parma Grey on top (its actually blue and not grey when its on). So he gets to think its grey and you know its blue....

We have f&b light blue on the bottom and white on the top. I hate it but don’t know what I want instead! Maybe the skirtings and doorframes should be painted too to make it look better…
