Backsplash/Tiles

So, freestanding oven. Above oven to the left and right will be cupboards, and a bridging unit directly above oven.

Initial plan was to have upstands the same as the worktop either side of the oven, with an Alusplash backsplash behind it. Problem is, I really don’t like it! So now considering tiles instead of upstands, with the same tiles from the oven all the way up to the bridging unit. I love the below, but the floor is herringbone and I wonder if it’ll be too busy. Any thoughts/pics/ideas/advice?!

Just because I lean towards slovenly sometimes, I’d not put white tiles behind an oven.

And I thought it was splashback!

I'd say splashback, too!

I could not wait to get rid of tiles in my kitchen, life is far too short to de-gunge grotty grouting.

We have a glass panel. The colour can be matched to any paint chart. They're easy to wipe clean and any stuck-on greasy splashes can be scraped off, or if necessary, you can you use the very finest grade of steel wool.

Ok, have I been saying backsplash for the past 2 months when it’s actually splashback…?! FFS

It’s a small oven so I just worry a SPLASHBACK will look too boxy and odd?

We used fully edge-glazed tiles and butt jointed them to avoid using grout which always picks up dirt and looks awful after a while.

When you say freestanding oven do you mean a range? If so, what’s it made of and can you have a matching splashback panel (eg brushed steel if the range is brushed steel) - this is what we used to have and I liked it, easy to clean and neat looking as it was the same material as the range.

Backsplash is American I think! Like they say counter instead of worktop/worksurface.

@Grantanow This is what I’m thinking - do you have any pics you’d be happy to share?

Hi Dilemma22 Here is a photo you can zoom in on to see the tiles joins. Hope this helps. Apologies for being a bit slow to respond with a photo.

Grout will get a bit grubby when used between tiles as a splash back.
Glass splash back instead in matching or contrast colour?
Very easy to keep clean
