Moving checklist and packing tips

We are moving house at beginning of April and I am researching checklists for moving - things to do, people to contact about change of address and clever ways to label boxes. Any advice welcomed!

Ideally I'd like an checklist with what to do all on it but I am struggling to find one on the internet that has everything all in one place.

We currently rent so will need to have end of tenancy stuff like cleaning etc too.

I ended up making my own list as like you couldn't find a single one that covered everything! For change of address I worked through all my direct debits to make sure I had all utilities etc covered in a list. Then everything relating to cars - insurance, documents, driving licence, per person.

Doctors, dentist, opticians, work, any personal finance etc

Go through your purse to make sure you have a list of all banks, etc

Any online shops/apps used frequently E.g Amazon.

I still did a redirection for 6 months to mop up any I'd missed/were slow to update.

When packing I numbered all the boxes to keep it simple for the removal company and a brief note of what was in the box for me when unpacking so I knew what was important & which boxes could wait. E.g room 1 - books. We also stuck numbered post-it notes on furniture.

Keep some paper, a marker pen and tape to hand on moving day to stick labels on every door so the removal company can easily see and drop boxes/furniture labelled "1" to the room labelled "1".

For your rental I'd probably check through the contract to see what is required and if it needs a professional service E.g windows clean, lawns cut, oven clean. Don't forget to take meter readings as you leave and again in your new property as soon as you walk in.

Keep your cleaning equipment to hand so it's ready as soon as you get your keys and pack an overnight bag for everyone so you have essentials to hand for the first night/morning.
