Different window colours front and back?

We're undergoing a big renovation starting with the loft, which will be getting white windows in the dormer at the back. These are already ordered I think as they start in 2-3 weeks. We were also going to have the rear bedroom windows replaced with white windows at the same time, although these haven't been ordered yet. There will be four small white framed windows on the side of the semi-detached house, one on the ground, two middle and one on the top floor.

We're planning a kitchen diner in a couple of years, probably with French doors which we'd recently thought about having agate/Painswick grey both inside and out. I think this would look OK with the white upstairs, as it will be an obvious extension.

But now I come to my dilemma. Would it be too much or look really mix and match if the front windows (three box bays) were also pale grey? The render will be painted white. Or would I be better off painting the render a slightly different colour with white window frames? I don't think I want both to be white. The front door will be whatever goes with the rest of it, probably a dark but muted blue or something.

If I'd thought properly about this earlier I could probably have got grey for the dormer, but I think it might be too late for that.

Hi@BoyGirlDogCatMouseCheez. I'm not sure I can quite picture what would go where but I had black windows at the back and white at the front and side in my last house and it was fine because you were only ever looking at one side at a time IYSWIM so nothing jarred.

We've got Painswick on the outside of our current house (white inside), we get a lot of compliments about them, one of our neighbours even refers to our house as "the one with the lovely coloured windows"!

If I was looking to buy a house then mismatched windows would really bother me because I’d have to pay to have them replaced.

If I was visiting a friend who had mismatched Windows I wouldn’t comment but I would think it was odd -sorry.

Odd coloured windows would put me off.

Sorry OP, I also think that mismatched windows look odd, it could look as if you'd run out of money and couldn't afford to replace all of the windows.

A house near me has just had new dark grey french doors. They stand out (and not in a good way) because all of the other windows and door frames are white.

Thanks, you've all confirmed what I thought. My husband was convinced it would be fine. The excellent news is that it turned out the windows hadn't been ordered yet, so we can have the same colour everywhere!

OP I think some of the posters are misunderstanding your question and think you are having different coloured windows on one side?

I think doing the front and back 2 different colours is perfectly fine as @SollaSollew said.
