  1. woudl I need to do the same wall in all house or just on the ground floor and the 1st floor other colour?

I'm looking for a new home and deliberately avoiding the grey houses as it'll cost a lot of time and effort to change it. I saw a North facing house which which was painted grey all over & it looked v dark and dingey. It sucked all the light out of the place and made me feel depressed, I couldn't wait to leave.

@weansu

There is good grey & then there is bad grey where the furniture/cushions are all grey etc.
I think that’s farrow and ball French grey, could be wrong, but it’s very similar. It’s more green than grey and I agree it’s a good one,
megletthesecond · 14/02/2022 06:14

No.
All the cheap places on homes under the hammer end up grey.

If it's to sell or rent I'd go off white (probably with a warmer underlying tone) over grey. Yes it's boring but it's suppose to be, grey is boring pretending to be something else.
And absolutely agree on switches, plain white especially for rental. Easy to replace if broken, easy to clean

No to brushed steel switches. I personally like switches to blend in, not be a feature.

We have a light grey hall (rocksalt by dulux) but only because I want a blue kitchen and needed the hall to be neutral. I’ve added white framed bright pictures (my dc artwork framed) to add colour and character otherwise it’s urgh to me. Next door is white and grey and looks so clinical I hate it. Personal taste though.

Kshhuxnxk · 14/02/2022 11:09

You should have whatever you want. Personally I hate grey, its dull, depressing and now really chavvy.

WutheringHeights66 · 14/02/2022 11:26

I agree there is grey and grey. I picked what I thought was a Dulux dull soft sage green and when it went on the walls it looked grey, looked green in mums house. The Decorator said the colour code YY meant it had a yellow base so it was most definitely green.

Anyway, despite my misgivings, all my accessories are olive green and now that grey-green room looks brilliant. You don't walk in and go "grey" - you walk in and go "green".

Choose your grey wisely.

WutheringHeights66 · 14/02/2022 11:29

PS - definitely no to the brushed steel light switches and sockets, they are so dated. My white ones match the ceilings & skirtings and therefore you don't notice them. With white doors they will stand out. -

weansu · 14/02/2022 11:31

I think white switches are awful tbh. I have clear ones but they aren't cheap.

I also think it's more modern to have skirting boards the same colour as the walls.

mocktail · 14/02/2022 11:48

I'm not keen on all-grey colour schemes personally. I particularly dislike grey carpets. I love a bit of colour - something like this house on Instagram: instagram.com/victorian_terrace_project

However if it's a rental property then a very pale grey / off-white / cream throughout is probably a good blank canvas.

I quite like white woodwork and light switches.

CrispsnDips · 14/02/2022 12:42

I’ve changed all our light grey walls to either navy blue, bottle green or very dark grey..which I think look fab 😀

HasaDigaEebowai · 14/02/2022 13:21

If it’s for a rental I’d go with what’s “in” i.e being used a lot, right now. That’s ivory/off white walls with navy. I’m just about to put a navy kitchen in a rental. I wouldn’t have it in my own kitchen because it’s so popular right now and so it will date (and would cost a lot to repaint because it’s so dark) but for a rental, popular is good. I’m going with navy ikea kitchen with pale fake quartz laminate worktops, ivory walls and tiles, laminate floor. Living/dining is ivory with navy or emerald green curtains. Bedrooms are ivory with mid beige curtains and blinds and mid beige carpets.

Sounds a bit Mrs Hinch. Too boring and yet tacky at the same time.
