Which house?

Hi all,

We are currently looking to buy a house this year. We have 2 babies. Do we go with an ok house within walking distance of a 'good' school? Or a great house (spacious with huge garden) within driving distance of a 'good' school? I feel strongly about being able to walk the school run for 8 years. School run traffic and parking is awful. Driving also means we may need a second car. But driving gives us more housing options in terms of location.

Will your children get into the school from both locations? Check the last admitted distance first.

Lol. The house with the bigger garden!

@Nstarr if searching now, I'll prioritize house walking distance to school. Ideally 3/4 streets away.

@Nstarr

Thank you for your responses so far. I should have been clear, there is no specific house as yet. I really meant, which AREA should we go for. Prioritise being able to walk in, or ignore that factor and choose whichever house we love and deal with driving every day for the next 8-9 years minimum.
Ah that’s very different. You’ll likely know if you fall in Love with a house. Go view some and decide.

The great house if it’s a rare opportunity. Or you’ll regret it. Walking to school will not compensate for that in the long run.

UPDATE:

We didn't get either of those houses. They had 30+ viewings and offers. We left the area completely and found a beautiful house in walking distance of 5 great schools.

thats a lovely update, very pleased for you. I was going to add, before I read the update, if you can’t decide between two properties, neither are right so just keep looking. When you find the right place you know. Good luck for your move
