Having engineered wood installed in bedrooms - will it smell ?

Hi there

Just wondering if the new floor will smell and if so how long?

The description says:

"With a fast and secure 5GC click system, all you need to do is put down underlay and get fitting, there’s no gluing or nailing required"

Has anyone had experience with this?

No it won't smell at all! It clicks together like a long flat jigsaw, there is no glue or anything else that can smell.

The underlay used might smell a bit, particularly if you stick your face up against it. Once laid, you won't smell anything.

Thinking of doing this in my attic conversion. Will it be noisy?

Yes I'm wondering the same about the new floor. My second main concern is the noise. We currently have carpet and the floor underneath is a bit uneven and creaky .... some planks / plywood probably not attached properly. Builder promised to level the floor and I've bought the most expensive underlay (gold, acoustic, 5mm) but I'm still really worried about whether it's gonna be noisier than the carpet we have now :(

We used the same expensive underlay in the last house and the floor felt a bit bouncy! You could see it depress under someone's foot when they walked past.

We went for the thinner 3mm green stuff for this house and it feels rock solid, miles better.

Ask your builder to fix and level the floor and then decide whether to go for it. If the existing floor is unlevel or creaky it will be very noisy, if not it will be fine.
