Cost of really thick curtains?

I'd like to have some noise reducing curtains made (inspired by another thread)!

I've already got secondary glazing, but I'm lying here thinking some heavy curtains on top of the shutters on top of the secondary on top of the double glazing might help...!

We stayed in a posh B&B recently that was on a main road and had curtains that felt like they had a thin duvet inside. They were beautiful.

How much do such things cost??

The room is big, bay window and then a second window (would you do both??).

And what about the maintaining on them? Presumably they need cleaning every so often? That must cost a fortune too??

I bought some very reasonably priced light coloured curtains from M&S to fit my window that were further reduced in the sale and used them as both a pattern and an inner lining ifyswim when sewing my own curtains if that makes sense. I worked out that the cost of the entire project at £1200 was a lot less than I would have paid if I had bought liner and inter-liner on-line. (Our ceilings are very high and we have a very wide and drafty sitting room window.) Having said that, when bulking out curtains, you do have to remember to factor in the cost of very sturdy hanging systems or poles which are needed to take the extra weight.

Interlining will make the room less echoey - like a carpet, armchairs, rug, sofa etc would. So they’ll not stop sound entering the room, but will help absorb it.

If your room has lots of hard surfaces (eg a kitchen/diner with tiled floor) then you’ll hopefully notice a difference. If it’s a carpeted living room with fabric sofas etc, you probably won’t.
