Moving home 3 days before c section

Basically what the title says, vendors moved very quickly with the sale which has meant that our closing date is Friday and I am due for c section on the Monday. I'm trying not to panick. We have been house hunting for over a year so very happy to have gotten what we wanted but feeling quite anxious. Also have a 2 year old! Any tips or words of encouragement. We don't have beds or couch yet so that is first priority.

I had a section moved in two
Days later. Brand new house on tiny development. Didn't even have a curtain at the windows.

Awful

That’s a lot of change for your toddler.

Summersdreaming · 11/02/2022 20:44

Wow that will be hectic! But doable. Get on fb marketplace for beds, or if you have a British Heart Foundation nearby they always have loads, you could unload van then collect beds and sofas (not you personally obviously). Otherwise Argos is always handy for a quick delivery.

Pack suitcases with everything you all need for a week, plus a box of kitchen essentials, even if you only unpack those for the first week and do a box a day after that.

Online shop, microwave meals and lots of snacks in for the toddler.

@Duracell We had no choice really in the date of the move so had to just go with it. We didn't expect it to be so quick. We have done loads of preparing DD for new baby. We are living with relatives at the moment so thinking it would be best to stay here until the house is organised? Thanks for the tips @Summersdreaming!

I forgot to say congratulations! On the house and baby 😊

Congratulations and good luck! definitely Better 3 days before than 3 days after section! I moved into my first house when pregnant. Much better than my next move with a baby and toddler. if you do not have loads of stuff to move with you just get in, get the basics and take your time. Amazon prime can get some of the basics to you same/next day and Argos might have stuff in stock that someone could collect for you (thinking mattress, kettle, toaster etc) and you can book a supermarket delivery. We got a sofa for next to nothing off eBay (delivered) - it was meant to be temporary but we still have it! Slightly random tip I got some cardboard temporary blinds to go on all windows from Amazon. Not expensive and a doddle to put up/stick on and look fine until you can put curtains/blinds/shutters up.

Your toddler will fine.

If you get on with your relatives stay there until your new home is in order.

No advice but we are in a similar situation (the house move was actually due to happen before Christmas so would've given us time to settle in with toddler before baby arrives) we still don't have a firm date for the move or section. I know house everyone is "aiming" for 18th and my section will be week of 21st.

Just don't overdo it!

JustWonderingIfYou · 12/02/2022 07:27

Every toddler i know has got on very well with house moves- they barely blink if mummy and daddy are there thats all they care about.

I'd get a professional cleaner booked and prioritise getting a good bed- be warned you might prefer a completely different mattress once no longer pregnant. Also curtains, if vendors are taking theirs, for toddler room get a gro blind in the short term.

Sofas have incredibly long wait times at the mo so I'd start looking at 2nd hand on Facebook etc.

If you're with relatives now then its all fairly easy, no rushed packing and moving. You can do whatever works for you.

I agree it's better 2 days before than after!

I've recently had a bed delivered next day (and free) by bedstar-and its really nice! I couldn't find anywhere else with such a quick delivery. I would start buying all your kitchenware etc and leave it in packaging ready. There are always sofas on Facebook. I'm sure you could go and see one before, and then use the van to collect it on moving day.

I also remember reading a book to my young DC before moving. I think it helped them understand. Good luck!
