Semi-rural areas to live near Coventry?

Lou9878 · 11/02/2022 13:13

Hello,

My husband recently got a job near Coventry, we're not from the area and we have no idea what areas are nice or not, I was wondering if had any suggestions about anywhere to start looking?

We've got a budget of about 500k, and we are hoping to find a 3/4 bed detached house somewhere.

We're hoping to find a nice area commutable to Coventry with a decent primary school nearby. We'd love to be near some woods or countryside walks as we live in our wellies and are used to a semi-rural life.

It a looks a bit built-up around that area, but fingers crossed we can find something!

Thank you. Smile

We’re in the southam area- Stockton, long Itchington, Napton etc are all nice villages with good primaries and southam college is one of the best secondary’s in the country.
All very close to canal walks and Napton had a lovely village shop.

Ooh Brinklow and Ansty would both be great for Coombe Abbey country park, amazing dog walks (sorry I don’t want to assume but also good for little ones, good park and duck feeding etc)

Meriden is lovely, with a great school. As is Balsall Common

Anywhere south of Coventry between Kenilworth and Stratford upon Avon will be easy access to Cov and Leamington and as Far East as Southam. I wouldn’t go south of Stratford as it gets to be a long journey back to Cov then. If you go onto rightmove there is a feature where you can give it a fixed location such as work and tell it how far you’re willing to travel to get there.

Just bear in mind that if he’s working north side of Coventry then the roads through and around Cov are a real nightmare during rush hours.

@Lou9878 Binley Woods is a lovely village . it has a nursery, primary school, pub, butchers, post office, little convenience store and greengrocers and small cafe, a fab village hall. Also right on the edge of Brandon Woods with fantastic walks. It has a great park and kids play area.
It also has a lovely community spirit.

@Lou9878 meant to add feel free to message me if you need anymore info in any areas round Coventry- I know it very well. 😊

Some of the places mentioned here are not the best commute from Cov -Wellesbourne, for example, would take a good 40 mins I reckon, at peak time. I realise many people commute much longer than that, but you could get somewhere much closer.

Agree with a PP - Leek Wootton is worth a look. Would be the top of your budget though, and you have to move quickly as houses get snapped up. Great school (feeding into a v good secondary) and ticks your 'quiet' box. Other villages outside Warwick may suit too - Hampton on the Hill, Budbrooke, Hampton Magna, Snitterfield, Norton Lindsey (all a bit further away though).

I am v local to that area, and although I don't commute to Cov per se, I very frequently catch the train from there for meetings etc, and DH works half there/half Leamington, so we're in a similar situation to you.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/02/2022 22:44

Hampton on the Hill, Snitterfield and Norton Lindsey may be outside of budget. Lovely villages but £500K plus.

Barford definitely worth a look. Wellesbourne....maybe. Hatton Park definitely.

ReviewingTheSituation · 11/02/2022 22:51

Yes - NL and Snitterfield are expensive, you're right... although friends bought a 3 bed well under 500k a few months ago in NL.
Hatton Park is surely just a huge housing development? Not sure it would classify as a village. And no school? Perfect location though!

GuyFawkesDay · 11/02/2022 23:00

Most kids in Hatton Park got to Ferncumbe or Budbrooke school. Both good. Secondaries split depending which end of the estate you are between Henley in Arden school or Aylesford. Both good schools. There's also the S Warks grammars but they're hard to get into these days plus the private schools.

There's a shop on Hatton Park and a really nice community centre which has loads going on. For an estate it's a really nice one.

midds3 · 11/02/2022 23:10

We're in Kenilworth, probably not rural enough for you though.
I'd be wary of Hatton park as they're now trying to build another new build estate opposite so it might become a giant housing estate with a busy main road through the middle.
Southam and surrounding is a good shout as easy access to Leamington and coventry.
They're wanting to build some new homes in leek wootton, not sure whether they'd be in budget or not though.

Isonthecase · 12/02/2022 10:15

They've been trying to build the estate next to Hatton park for decades, think it was in the original plan. Definitely better off on the a46 side though as it was a hell of a drive through there with the roadworks a couple of years ago.

GuyFawkesDay · 12/02/2022 10:18

They're building 150 more houses on Hatton Park. Can't go the other side as there's the canal and restricted road access due to the canal & railway bridge

Lou9878 · 12/02/2022 17:39

Thank you everyone for sharing your local knowledge, I was so lost before posting here and now I have a actual plan for a drive around!

You have all been so helpful. I'm excited to look in between Warwick/Leamington/Coventry now and see what we can find.

Now just got to find somewhere that's up for sale! Grin

Very small villages, maybe try barnacle, ansty

You forgot to mention Willey Grin

Glitteryjelly · 28/06/2022 15:32

Coventry born and bred here, feel free to PM for any further information!

MimiSunshine · 28/06/2022 21:33

I would have a look at the villages on the Warwick/ Leicestershire boarders too.
from villages near Lutterworth (Gilmorton, Broughton Astley are bigger with shops and pubs / restaurants but there are many little ones) you can get to Coventry in 30 mins and Lemmington in 40.
It’s also a quick and easy drives to Rugby station (25mins).

Glitteryjelly · 30/06/2022 09:47

I haven't read through the whole thread but Meriden, Fillongley, Old Arley, Corley, Astley, Berkswell are all lovely villages too. Apologies if they've already been mentioned!

BertieBotts · 30/06/2022 09:58

Hampton Magna maybe. You've got Warwick Parkway station then.

caringcarer · 30/06/2022 10:33

All schools in Solihull excellent. If you could get into that catchment area. Drive to Coventry fine from there.

confusde · 30/06/2022 13:57

Dorridge, Knowle, Solihull town are all nice. Leamington is nice but Warwick is nicer.
