Wall tiles, ceramic v porcelain

My potential bathroom fitter has told me that ceramic wall tiles are preferable over porcelain.
I’m completely ignorant about the technicalities, and obviously the only tile I’ve found that I like are porcelain
Has anyone been told why ceramic over porcelain, or am I being cynical and thinking that ceramic are just easier to fit and my fitter wants an easy ride?

Our fitter told us the same. He said it was because they are apparently tricker to work with. He told us you needed different equipment to cut porcelain tiles so if we wanted porcelain ones, we'd need to cover the cost of the blade or whatever it was he needed. I'm no expert so can't vouch to whether there's truth to it or not though.

Porcelain tiles are heavier. If your wall is plasterboard the tiles may not stay up very long. Also apparently porcelain tiles need a different tile cutter. That’s what my fitter told me

Thanks both, our walls are solid so no worries on that front, but I hadn’t thought about the need for different cutters etc,

I'd say porcelain were "better" in themselves, as they're stronger, less prone to cracking and more hard-wearing, and have a generally higher quality look and feel. There are downsides though, in that they're more difficult to cut or drill and heavier, which can cause problems in some situations.

For preference I'd have porcelain on the floor, where the weight is less likely to be an issue. I'd also use porcelain anywhere they're likely to see extremes of temperature, like outdoors (porcelain tiles are often used for patios).

On walls, I've stuck with ceramic tiles up to now, but because of the cost and ease of working, not because they're better.

We have porcelain tiles on plasterboard walls, the weight hasn't been a problem. I'd agree with the hardness. My husband wanted to drill some holes for fixing and each hole needed a new diamond edge drill bit.

They look lovely but it did become quite expensive.

I just don’t know what to do! The only ones I’ve found that I like are porcelain….
