Fancy house or house I like?!

Hi everyone, some advice would be great!
We are moving house, I'm pregnant and we need to make a decision soon! We have found 2 houses on the same street and we love the area. We just can't decide between the 2...DH works from home full time, I work from home 2 days a week, and my Dad will likely come to live with us (Mum ill)...so space is useful.

Grey house - all new, fancy interiors (underfloor heating, wooden floors, wine fridge, breakfast bar, lovely lintels etc etc etc) and DH says boiler heating system all top notch. Problem is...I hate all the fancy stuff in the kitchen and bathrooms - the style is very footballer's wives which is absolutely fine but just not me. Basically guy built his dream home for family and now getting divorced. For example, bath has steps up to it and is black glitter. But it is very well done - lighting is fab, top notch built in wardrobes. Garden is grim.
3 bedrooms and a converted attic that is fairly big.

Red house - 1930s, was done up by a builder a few years ago, but nothing super fancy - carpets might last a few more years, kitchen is not special but it's big and open plan with space for play area (kitchen in grey house is L shaped and has no room for a low table just the breakfast bar - don't know how kids ate!). Red house has 5 bedrooms with a small room for a home office for me.

DH feels strongly that grey is the better house. He's probably right, but I don't like the exterior or interior, despite knowing it's very good quality!

Same price - any thoughts appreciated!

Know this is a very good problem to have just struggling to make a decision. Thanks :-)

Is the red house bigger? Sounds like it is. Is this a long term house? What type of houses are they detached, semi terraced? Garage? What way does the garden face? I wouldn't necessarily disregard the grey house if it's just because you don't like the current decor, but there are other factors to consider.
If they were both stripped back which one would you go for and which one would your DH go for?

Red. Grey sounds grim.

RED

Red house.

Tell your dh you can always do up red house to the same standard (though obviously less tacky in style) as grey house.

You may not be able to extend grey house to the size of red house.

Grey house is not really big enough for 3 adults and baby, two of the adults needing work spaces, and what if you have more DC later?

With the grey house type place you are paying for the tacky style they have put it /saw lots of this type of thing when when was looking to buy in Spain - sellers always trying to recoup and remember the bling is sll now second hand. Am just now lucky enough to have have found the last unblinded house in a row of cottages. Even if it takes me time and effort to modernise will not being paying to undo a load of tack.

We bought a slightly run down 1920s house, family had been living in it but Hadn’t done much to it apart from new roof. It’s costing us a fortune to put right…..new boiler, radiators, even the decorating as everything needs patched, done etc.

If you can get a well done grey house and redecorate I’d seriously think about it. Swapping a bath out isn’t like putting in a new bathroom….

So try and ignore decor and think about the space, aspect and garden.

Seems like I'm on my own with Grey House Grin
