Petty reasons to justify moving house?

I'm keen to move house but for no other reason than I don't like my neighbourhood and the road is a bit noisy. Lovely otherwise and kids are v settled here - and of course the cost of moving/selling is $$$. But I don't need to move - I just want to. It seems mad, right?

Interested to know if you ever justified a house move for a fairly inconsequential reason - if any?

I'm a bit confused - who do you need to justify it to and why? Are you planning to move your kids' schools and want advice on how to break it to them? Or do you have a spouse that doesn't want to move?

It’s not a petty reason at all if you want to move because of the neighbourhood and a noisy road!! It’s a very valid reason. Some people move just because they fancy a change, which is the category I will fall into if and when I decide to upsticks so I suppose that’s the most petty reason of all as I have a lovely house in a lovely area and have no need to move whatsoever but I will at some point purely for a change of scenery.

@TabithaHazel - just trying to justify it to myself. I know I'm not the only one who moves house 'for a change' or because they don't like the neighbourhood. Just curious about others who have moved for minor reasons.

I don't like my neighbourhood and the road is a bit noisy.

Those two are reason enough. Have you seen anywhere you like the look of yet? You'll need to at least have yours up for sale for a lot of agents to allow you viewings in the current market.

I have a friend who genuinely moved house because whist he loved the area, his flat needed a new kitchen and bathroom and decorating but he didn’t want the disruption. He worked out (he’s an accountant, there were immense spreadsheets) it would work out more profitable over 10 years to buy the gorgeous newly refurbished flat three floors above, let his old flat out, and avoid any renovation work in doing so.

Even he only spent a week or so justifying it to himself! I think that disliking the road outside and the neighbourhood are perfectly ordinary and justifiable reasons for moving house.

Good luck to you. Hard enough to be able to move house at the moment when you actually need to so I wouldn’t worry about it too much just yet OP.

My parents sold the home they had spent years doing up and were very happy in because their new neighbour that had bought the house next door sold cigarettes for a living (to supermarkets and pubs etc). straight up the sole reason they gave for moving Confused

I think the reasons you have given, the noisy road and not liking the neighbourhood are good reasons in themselves - if you can afford it, life's too short to live somewhere that makes you miserable. Last time we moved it was for more space - that we didn't necessarily need but due to an inheritance we could afford. Good luck :)
