Sofa.com breakdownables & fabric choices

Has anyone with awkward access ordered a 'breakdownable' sofa from sofa.com? If so, how did delivery go? Were they happy to do the breakdown and put-back-together bit? Did they get the sofa into your room of choice without any issues?

Also - if you have a non-Smart velvet, how has it held up to real-life use? Or would I be absolutely mad to consider a non-Smart fabric in a house with small kids and pets?

I ordered the Isla 3-seat sofa, wide armchair and footstool last year. I have a 1930s terrace house with a very narrow hallway and tight entrance.

The sofa arrived in one piece and they dismantled it outside (it was summer) and then brought the pieces in and put it together inside my front room and had no problems bringing it in as it broke down into 4 parts - back, bottom, legs and arms. The seat cushions were then added. There was a 2-man crew and they made very quick work and were lovely. The armchair fitted fine without the legs and cushions and so did the footstool as I'd measured up well.

I was very happy with the service and am very pleased with the furniture. I had been looking at Snug and Swyft but thought it all looked a bit industrial or 'blocky' and I wanted more of a traditional, comfortable look.

I didn't have a velvet fabric so can't comment on that I'm afraid. I'm single but clumsy so wouldn't dare Smile

Thanks, 1moreglass - we live in a townhouse, our living room is on the first floor, and the stairs to get there turn back on themselves by 90 degrees. Getting large furniture upstairs is always a nightmare!

We have a Swyft sofa in our garden room, and I like it, but I want something softer and squidgier in the living room. The Snug ones, I agree, look a bit boxy, plus I'm not sold on the colour choices. So if the Sofa.com ones will actually go into the house, we'll be onto a winner!

Sorry, that should be: 'turn back on themselves by 180 degrees'. They are proper winder stairs. Very space efficient, but being compact has its downsides!

Sounds like a nightmare! The angle to get the base and back bits in was very tight but just worked. The alternative would have been to put them through a window - not sure that would work for you though.

I never thought I'd get such a lovely sized sofa in my front room so am very happy.

We had really difficult access and a living room upstairs like you describe. We ordered a fairly large 3 seater sofa from the.lm and it got around a very tight turn at the top of the stairs, through an incredibly narrow doorway and an even narrower archway. They built it so quickly and were so careful. We've had the sofa 10 years and it's still going strong!

Fabric-wise, we got the brushed cotton which is very sturdy and has no signs of wear. I have a friend who got the smart velvet and it looks nice but feels a bit cheap. We got "proper" velvet from another company and it feels amazing, but I was advised it's basically impossible to clean without destroying the pile Sad

Sorry, that was meant to say "ordered from them", as in sofa.com!

We have had the velvet Iggy sofas for 7 years now. They are doing great and although the sun did bleach the colour within the first year, the velvet itself has stood up well
