What would you do with this kitchen?

Looking for advice! In the long term (say 10 years) we are planning to extend out the back (hopefully).
We want to gut the existing kitchen in the meantime and make it a more usable space, ideally without flipping corner cupboards(I hate them)
We would like to 'future proof' so wouldn't want to have one massive room at the back of the house (which it would be if /when extended). Wondering about opening it up temporarily and perhaps putting a stud wall up to separate the two rooms a bit?
We like kitchen islands but I suspect this space will be too small?
What do you reckon?

Forgot to add to the OP that we are also after general extension advice!

I’d knock down the wall between the kicteh and the rear reception wall and put in a beam. Then you could have your island.

I’d close off the recess at the bottom of the kitchen and make it a utility cupboard.

I might close off the existing door between the kitchen and the hall as well.

Thank you!
I still quite fancy a partition wall but not sure I can have both without an extension Hmm

Something like this? I always prefer draws than cupboards.

Not sure if here is enough space for a table, if not something small and foldable or chairs could be added to the bit that comes out if there is enough space.

That corner between the doors, I would use as storage and put lots of green plants on it. I can picture it.

I would put a utility in the end of the garage. Then you will need less stuff in the kitchen and you will have more space to play with. We have mostly drawers too so before I started planing I made a list of all the different drawers I would want in an ideal kitchen and worked backwards from that.

You could maybe put a large doorway between the two back rooms? Maybe look up broken plan for some ideas. It's like open plan but with a bit more seperation.

We have/had a garage like yours, where it runs the full length of the house. In reality the back half was just a dumping ground and we would only ever put one car in (if at all). So we've just knocked through into the garage from the kitchen, to create a bigger kitchen with room for a sitting area/sofa, and a kitchen island (we're just coming to the end of our work..)

We also decided to get rid of the rest of the garage to make a utility and spare bedroom/office, but I understand that not everyone likes getting rid of the garage. Our kitchen is now much lighter/brighter - like yours is was jammed between 2 spaces and has/had too many corner cupboards!

Do you currently need 2 reception rooms?

I'd potentially move the kitchen to the rear reception room and turn the existing kitchen into a utility, boot room, store, laundry room. That would mean the kitchen could be fairly minimal, and space for a nice big table for entertaining.
