I'm moving into this property soon. Just after decorating ideas. The one thing bothering me is do I continue the decor in both room. The arch cannot be removed. Second pic is what I was thinking of going with.

Looks like nearest side gets the light? And it’s nice to be able to see what you eat Grin I’d do lighter tones in the dining room then darker in the sitting room for cosy lamplight dramatic vibes.

Ooh, does the blue wallpaper with the light pattern come in a version that’s the light colour with blue pattern?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/02/2022 10:08

I'd do the same flooring throughout, your initial picture in the living room, then in the dining room just do the same navy on the chimney breast then white or whatever the other walls in the living room are.

@Lunaballoon

You say the arch cannot be removed but squaring off the top would improve the look and design flow between the two rooms.
Yes that is another idea thank you, I quite like the retro look of the arch

@daisypond

Same flooring throughout. Carpet is fine if you like it. But you could differentiate the two rooms by having a different rug in each room, something very practical in the dining room.
Practicality is what I am thinking with 5 kids!

@ChoiceMummy

Imo that's a really dark colour for two rooms that will presumably have reduced light due to the arched wall.

If you were using lighter palette colours I think that you'd be able to decorate each side different if that was your preference.

That's what I was also thinking but I really like navy and ochre. Other colour I like is sage green

Yes that's right with the lighting. Not sure will have a look that's a good idea

I would use Amtico flooring look of wood, wears well, lasts years and takes a beating - then have an almost full rug in the living room so it goes under the sofas.

Our living room is bright colours with the dining room having nutural walls and accents of the living room in the curtains and light fittings - so similar but not the same - ours flows into the kitchen so the tiles pick up the colours as well but again less colour.

tootiredtospeak · 06/02/2022 10:16

I would go back room dark blue like the pic would also get a joiner to do a full shelf in both alcoves above the cupboard. Then on the other side I would choose a wallpaper but with some dark blue in it but only as an accent otherwise it could end up too dark.

We have a living and dining room set up that's quite similar, though ours have glass doors between so we can close it off. We have dark blue on the fireplace wall and grey on the other other 3 walls in the living room, then grey and white (dado rail) on the dining room walls. We have the same colour lamp shades and the same flooring following through. We also have oak furniture in both rooms. It flows really well, could you replicate?

As my partner is a Tiler it's tiles only and you can get beautiful wood look tiles that are on trend right now. Your living room sounds beautiful

That sounds really beautiful. I have been wondering what colour will work on the other ways. A light grey sounds good especially with white dado rail. I do want splashes of colour with lamps etc and I really like Ochre.

Amtico does tiles.

Thank you. I love the Arch too 😁. No just in the alcoves next to the chimney breast and the breast painted navy. The fire will be removed and replaced with a rustic wood flooring fire surround. We are cycling as much as we can with rustic woods.
That sounds fantastic, best of luck with it! I like your style with the wallpaper & colour scheme in dark blue.

I had the same dilemma and decided to put the wall back between rooms, as we didn't need a dining room.
The back room is a spare room, with storage, books, with a desk and all the washing drys in there too.

All the kids uniform is on a chest of drawers in there too.
When we have guests to stay it's easy to turn it into a guest room.

lambchop81 · 06/02/2022 19:30

Thank you very much 🥰

It's rented so can't change the structure unfortunately. I need a room for all the bloody washing. Sounds great what you if it's what I need bit of a hiding room.

What colour blue did you use please?

We have similar but the arch is squared off. We painted the arch dark blue (F&B Hague Blue) on both sides, the walls on the living room side are then a lighter blue (F&B Oval Room Blue) and the walls on the dining room side are light green (F&B Vert de Terre ). The three colours really complement each other but separate the different areas nicely. Oh and the flooring is the same all though (wooden floorboards).
I think you can get away with really dark colours in a small living room as it makes it really cosy, I like your suggestion in your first post.

Primrosefields · 07/02/2022 14:53

@lambchop81
We used Dulux Sapphire Salute (navy wall) and Dulux Polished Pebble (all other walls)

Primrosefields · 07/02/2022 14:57

The carpet colour is anthracite to match the dog Grin
