Immersion heater questions

We have an immersion heater - newly installed - fully insulated. With the energy price rises we are looking to save money any way we can! We tend to leave the heater on all the time so it clicks on and off during the day to keep our water hot but would it be better to put it on for a couple of hours in the middle of the night so we have hot water in the morning which is the only time we use it? I have always figured that it would be cheaper to keep it ticking over all day rather than heat it from cold once a day. Can anyone tell me which way is best and which would cost less?

If it is insulated can you fit a timer so you heat water a couple of hours morning and evening.

If you are on a cheap night rate economy-seven then heating during that period will save you money.

If you have a very well insulated tank as you say then it's not going to make a huge difference to the amount of electricity you use to heat it up to the temp you want. But yes, if you wanted to save every single penny then heating it up just before you were to use it could potentially save you a little. (Newton's law of cooling)
