areas to avoid around Sheffield / Chesterfield

Hi!

I’m looking for any ideas or advice on nice areas to live around Sheffield / Chesterfield – or specific areas to avoid.
We’re returning to the UK soon with our school age (7&9) kids so good schools are important to us. Flying in for viewings is a little more of an issue at the moment so I’m trying to do as much in advance as possible so we only need to travel when needed (never know when new restrictions will be added mid visit).

Living in a town / village / area with an open community with plenty of families (rather than pensioners) and a few sports clubs for the kids would be ideal as I would like the kids to get themselves to their clubs once they’re a little older and not always have to be the taxi.

So far I’ve seen some nice looking houses in Dronfield and lower priced ones in (new?) Tupton. Is there a reason for the price differences in these areas?
Also a few near the waterski park (Killamarsh) and Ashgate / Brampton in Chesterfield.

Any advice of areas to avoid or focus on would be great.

Where do you need to be for work? Will you be commuting into Sheffield?

Having grown up in that area and then returned as an adult I would suggest the west side of chesterfield, ie Walton, Brampton, holymoorside etc or dronfield. Tend to be a bit more middle class and welcoming to people moving in, I would avoid any ex mining villages killamarsh, exkington, stavely, Whittington, although appreciate west side of chesterfield less good for commuting

Thanks for the feedback, we've got our own little on-line business so commuting isn't a big factor.

Would you include Ashgate in that W.Chesterfield list? As I see a few houses available there at the moment.

Also what do you think of the locations south of Chesterfield (tupton / clay cross)?

If commuting isn’t a factor then Tupton might work for you. The secondary school was always very good, though I should say I don’t have experience in the last 10 years. Wingerworth feeds into Tupton Hall too and again if you’re not worried about commuting you can be that bit closer to the Peak District.
