OAP last in chain slowed/ stopped house chain

I’m in a chain of six people and desperate to move. Everyone is. But the last in the chain is a probate sale and the executor of the will is incredibly old and important documents are not getting returned. Without them the sale could take up to a year. With them it could take weeks.

But her busy solicitor is only pushing those who push them and so nothing is happening. What do we all do? My solicitor and estate agent have pushed. Do we all give up and move on.

I’m currently working from home with three children in a two up two down without a garden and going insane. No other houses on the market either.

I wish people cared about the impact their actions had on others in property sales. The uncertainty is driving me to the brink!

Whereabouts in the chain are you OP? The estate agents below the top of the chain need to push this with the solicitor at the top. Would the next person down from the top move into rented?

That’s a bit harsh on the ‘incredibly old’ executor! Probate sales are notorious for taking a long time. Maybe try going into the office now instead of WFH. (I’m assuming your kids are at school or in childcare during the day, so WFH is a bit of a red herring)

nothing insulting about it, she just is very very old Smile my office is closed, manager relocating us post covid. DP has children on day I work so chaos in a little house 😭 worse in winter with nowhere for them to go. hence needing to move for more space.

The problem is that probate takes time irrespective of who is dealing with the solicitor. It can and regularly takes months and months.

6 months or so is a common time frame for probate.

Argh. So stressful. Where in the chain are you? I would suggest that third needs to push second to give first some deadlines or suggest to second that they will pull out. Second in the chain have the choice to wait for the slow vendor or look again.
