What professional do I need to look for?

Hello, I wonder if one of you might be able to put a name to the professional I need to engage to open up loft space?

Our Edwardian semi detached house has a quite substantial top floor, which has two smallish bedrooms and an area of loft space roughly the same size again, which is accessed through a hatch in the wall of a bedroom.

I'd love to open up that space to make a master bedroom suite upstairs, but the floor joists in the loft are not the same depth as the rest of the floor, and they are a bit bouncy...not safe to walk on without being super careful.

Because it's a structural thing, I'm not sure whether to go to an architect, a loft conversion specialist, a builder or what? If it's going to cost tens of thousands it's probably not worthwhile...but I have absolutely no gauge of price.

Has anyone done similar, and where did you start?

If you can get a recommendation for a good builder from a friend they should be able to advise on ball park cost and what you need to do

I'll do that this week, if I can find one. Getting tradespeople round for quotes is pretty tough at the moment and I didn't want to put one off by not knowing what exactly I wanted if it was actually a structural design I needed first.

Thank you
