Have 2 options

  1. under stairs - the width size would be 80 cm and long///not sure - see how the pictures look li
  1. at the end of Utility - width 90 and long - 180 cm

Please see the pictures what o you think, please

in option 1 - we would have to wire the manhole...
in option 2 - the manhole is there

By manhole do you mean the sewer pipe is already in the utility???

It depends what else you could use the space in the utility for? If its just an extra loo for down stairs, and the space under the stairs isn't being used, I'd have it there. As long as head height allows? If the cost of moving a sewer pipe under the stairs is a great deal, I'd keep it near the utility.

If space is really tight, something like this might work:

I have a loo under the stairs. We can’t use it as it’s packed full of coats, clobber and ironing board! We are building a utility room and bootroom for coats and I can’t wait to have a loo we can use again!
I would put the loo in the utility if you have nowhere else for coat / school bags / shoe storage.

i'd put it in the utility and use the under stair space for storage.

Put it in utility

Depends what else you are using utility for. If washing etc. then would use understairs

What other storage do you have for ironing board, mop, umbrellas etc?
Cloakroom for coats and shoes?

We have an under the stairs loo, as in option 1. DH is too tall to use it… might be worth checking for your own particular set of heights/stair gradient etc

Does disabled access matter, if you later sell the house (not sure of regulations where you are)

As other pp have suggested definitely take a hard, cold look at your storage needs first

under stairs I was planning coats, shoes, bags. if toilet underst staris, then coats, shoes, bags would go into utility.

Which is closer to the front door? We've just had a loo put under the stairs (previously it took a bite out of the kitchen), W 80cm x L 140cm approx, it's absolutely fine size-wise. But we don't have a utility room or anywhere else on the ground floor to put it. The location of your coats etc is more crucial than the location of the loo IMO. You don't want to be trekking halfway through the house to get a pair of gloves or whatever when you're trying to get the family out of the door.

Lockdownbear · 31/01/2022 00:29

I'd go under stairs then you don't have visitors in the utility room. I think loo in utility room is a bit odd tbh.

I prefer under stairs as my utility always a mess with laundry and recycling stuff and I used to hate visitors seeing this when they popped to the loo.

I've a neighbour in a wheelchair who can use the under stairs loo no problem it's a fairly new house
