House re-rendering cost

I feel like I’ve missed the boat with getting the house re-rendered. It’s a 3 bed semi, so three sides need doing. Quotes pre covid ranged from 10k-15k. I didn’t get my act together then, but now it really needs doing. I’ve just had a quote for 26k. Have prices risen by that much?? It’s beyond what we can afford, Think we are just going to have to patch up and re paint it ourselves. I will get other quotes but wonder what kind of prices others are currently paying. I’m in the south west. Thanks!

£26k!!! OMG that's unbelievable! I have to say we are having terrible problems getting trades people in to do anything at the moment - builders, electricians, plumbers etc. Either don't respond, can't come for months or hugely inflated prices. I know the cost of materials has rocketed and there must be a huge backlog because of Covid.

We've managed to find someone to paint the outside of our house - after a year of trying. But he won't give us a price - says it depends on what needs to be done where the paint is flaking off. Won't even give us an estimate. I'm scared we're committing ourselves to a huge sum of money. But the work needs doing and we can't find anyone else or manage it ourselves 🤷‍♀️

We had one large wall re-rendered 14 months ago.
Wall approx 30' front-to-back & 22' to bottom of roof plus whatever's above it. A small window in gable was closed up/rendered over so they only had two small windows to work around.

£7k inc VAT (Quote was provided in June 2020)

Thanks for the responses,
@StrawberryPot it seems crazy that it’s been so hard for you to find someone to paint your house, but after trying to get quotes for rendering I can understand! I’ve not had much luck getting any other quotes. I hope it goes well and doesn’t come in at too much.
@NotMyFIrstTIme thank you. I imagine that was a fairly straight forward job with few windows and just one flat side. Mine is three sides and lots of windows so maybe my 26k quote was realistic. Completely beyond what i can afford though.

are you getting a quote for coloured render with no painting afterwards? Or plain render that you could paint? There is a difference in price.

bluebeach · 06/02/2022 20:38

It was k-rend, so coloured render. Though coloured white. I should probably get a quote for both but having to repaint every few years will cost quite a bit so I thought K-rend would be best. Two years ago, k-rend was quoted between 8k and 15k. I’m hoping the 26k was someone who didn’t really want to do it. But maybe I’m out of touch.

@bluebeach

I’m in the same boat (See my other thread)
I just had a quote for nearly £17k without scaffolding (so probably £19k) and I thought that was bad!

I’m getting loads of work done at the moment and finding it a nightmare to get quotes that aren’t astronomical. I know prices have risen but I think so has people’s greed…

bluebeach · 09/02/2022 12:57

@Brightandyoung it’s a nightmare isn’t it. I’m self employed and all for paying a fair wage, but it’s a job that takes max 2 weeks so after materials they are making a fortune!
I’ll check out your other thread. I’m getting windows and doors too… genuinely thinking of just patching and painting, though I dread getting a quote for that now.
Surely there’ll become a point where no one will be able to afford to maintain their houses.
