Shared ownership

My DSis has just reserved a new build shared ownership. (She's over the moon)

Can anyone recommend a decent conveyancing solicitor for her please? Cheap as chips but decent ideally!

Thanks.

Any other tips too as I've no idea on shared ownership but want to help if I can so it goes through okay for them.

I can’t because I work for one Grin But just to say that conveyancing for a new build shared ownership is a lot of work, so she won’t get it really cheap.

Andithoughtiwasspecial · 26/01/2022 07:46

@MinnieMountain that's so true.

PeakyBlender · 26/01/2022 07:59

Thank you. I didn't really mean cheap, just ideally not £5000 or anything as they've only just about got enough and will need to pay for flooring etc.

Persimmons are trying to tell her she really really needs to use their recommended one to make it easier.

Persimmons are trying to tell her she really really needs to use their recommended one to make it easier.

I was told that too (not Persimmons). They even offered me a discount, but I decided to go with a local firm I was already familiar with.

The solicitors the builders were using turned out to be so crap that the estate agent told me she’d made a complaint, so I was quite pleased I hadn’t depended on their judgment.

PeakyBlender · 26/01/2022 08:07

Thanks. They are saying that no one else knows the process as well and things like that.

She's quite a bit younger than me and just wants it all to go through okay but I'm thinking they might be getting a kickback from the ones they're pushing.

She's had a pretty shit few years and it's lovely to see her happy again.

Tell her to look on Trustpilot. The firm doesn’t need to be local to her.

Referral fees shouldn’t make a difference to the service.

PeakyBlender · 26/01/2022 08:31

@MinnieMountain thanks I'll tell her to do that today.

She doesn't have to use the recommended one, but bear in mind that not all conveyancing firms are familiar with shared ownership, so it's important to make sure you choose one that is.

PeakyBlender · 26/01/2022 18:46

Thank you I've told her to make sure they are experienced in SO

I just used compare and convey .Co.uk to find mine. they have a box to select shared ownership. went fine (twice)

PeakyBlender · 26/01/2022 20:06

I've not heard of that, sounds very good thank you.

We bought our first house as shared ownership with Persimmon and used their recommended conveyancer, I think they were called Glover Priest and I'm pretty sure they were Birmingham based but it was about 7 years ago and I can't really remember! They were really good anyway and cheap which was important as we were skint
