Finding somewhere to live is so hard right now... D:

Our landlord has recently decided that he's not going to renew our tenancy so we have less than 2 months to find somewhere new to live. We've been to see quite a few places but have only seen two that we both like the look of.

One is an apartment that comes fully furnished (issue of finding storage for one of the double beds as we'd need a cotbed in one of the bedrooms) and it is £100 a month more than our current houses rent. It's not too far from where we currently live but it doesn't have a garden or anything for our baby to play in as he grows up.

Then there's a house with a garden that is only £50 a month more than our current rent. The issue is that it will add 20+ minutes onto my boyfriends journey to and from work which isn't the most appealing with him doing a mixture of really early and late starts. There are also a number of applicants.

I just feel like there's hardly anything suitable out there and when there is theres some kind of issue and with all the applicants nothing is guaranteed anyways.

House with the garden.

It is a nightmare atm - maybe take the apartment but look again in a year when the rental market is (hopefully) less crazy.

Don't worry about a garden - it is a nice to have but more time to spend with baby will be more important for your partner imo.

I would sell the double bed rather than store as you can easily buy another second hand off eBay when you need it further down the line.

Sorry to say I think it's only going to get harder Sad (in non holiday destinations) as lots of landlords are selling up, or reducing the number of properties they hold. Tax changes, EPC changes, potential Capital Gains Tax changes etc are putting people off being landlords. There will be more people chasing fewer properties, so rents will increase.
As mentioned in another MN thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/4463744-landlords-tax

@ MrsBaublesDylan, I think it's the furnished properties Landlord's bed.

Ask the landlord to remove it, before you take the property on.

I'd aim for the house if you've got a baby. The advantage of doing early / late starts might be that he misses peak rush hour traffic.
If the double bed is a deal breaker than ask if it can be removed.
