Help me decorate my new house

I have bought a house which is 2 years old and on an lovely estate in a great town. I really do not like the current decor and need help. I have attached pictures as I’m unsure what to go for. The current choices are really dark and dull and unfortunately I can’t imagine living with them.

The flooring is too dark - any suggestions what would be better? I don’t want grey- I want a warm natural/stone colour.

Also the kitchen I’m not loving. The green splash back tiles and green cupboards I’m not keen on either. The worktop seems so dark and dull too. I’m thinking of painting the cupboards and replacing the worktop, sink and splashback. What would you suggest if it was yours?

I really like the location and the house otherwise. Just not keen on the current decor but struggling to chose and lead times are so very long I want to get it ordered Asap

I think the decors looks fine. the floors are a bit dark, but they look well made & will be v expensive to replace. Why not put up some bright pictures on the walls & bright rugs on the floor? And it is easy to paint the kitchen cupboards a different colour.

what style / colours do you like? have you see pictures on Houzz or similar that appeal to you?

bonfireheart · 21/01/2022 22:17

I'm not usually a fan of green but the kitchen looks OK to me, the green splashback isn't nice though and I think the kitchen just needs some homely touches rather than a renovation- think a new worktop that complements the cupboards would be enough.

TheBeesKnee · 21/01/2022 22:20

I would put up a property splashback tile and replace the cheap handles. Everything else is fine, you just need rugs and clutter!

Incidentally, what kind of light do you have? Is it warm or cool?

Coffeekam · 21/01/2022 22:26

I’d say something like this is more my style. I like warm neural shades but still very light. I’m not keen on all grey but some grey is ok. We plan on having a table then a small sitting area at the other side of the table. I’ve attached the floor plan for reference.

Sorry but I think the kitchen is gorgeous. Perhaps change the handles, that's all. I also like the bathroom.

Totalwasteofpaper · 21/01/2022 22:30

You def want rugs…

In kitchen a new backsplash… if the counter is laminate I’d change for something lighter otherwise stick with it.
Wooden chopping boards on top will break up the darkness.

Art on the walls.

Bathroom needs greenery… wall art and bath mat

Totalwasteofpaper · 21/01/2022 22:30

And yes I would change those kitchen handles…

DSGR · 21/01/2022 22:32

I love the flooring, I think it’s a great contrast to the green

Coffeekam · 21/01/2022 22:37

Thanks you’re all helping a bit. I think I struggle to see past their Decor and how to make it my own - nice to think people think it’s nice and I could perhaps work with it.

The worktop is real wood I think

The kitchen is gorgeous. I think you would be mad to fool with it. A bad paint job is exactly that, and the truth is most people aren't very skilled at painting. Painting cabinets is easy to fuck up.

Totally agree.
Coffeekam · 21/01/2022 22:55

Ok so maybe a better question then would be how do I make the most of the dark floor and cabinets. What table would suggest? I quite like the wooden topped table with black legs but I think that would be too much wood?

Then what shade of couch would you suggest?
What kitchen handles would work best?

The lights are all warm toned. All other decor was very yellow. The curtains couches etc. all rich orange and yellow tones.

An oatmeal coloured couch, I reckon, with fabulous cushions of your choice, perhaps one or two picking up the green subtley? Gorgeous rug with the neutrals you like.

I love that table but the legs might be too black if you feel the floor is too dark. A paler wood?

NinaDefoe · 21/01/2022 23:04

I thought someone had posted the pictures to give the OP inspiration! Realised that they are the OP’s own photos.

I’m sorry OP but the decor is lovely already.

NinaDefoe · 21/01/2022 23:04

Really don’t like that table.

Puffalicious · 21/01/2022 23:08

How are the walls? Perhaps tone it all down with a taupe or something like Skimmimg Stone or Egyptian Cotton? Make your space interesting with texture rather than colour if that's your thing. The Kelly Hoppen look sort of?

Bathroom just needs plants/ lovely towels/ pictures/ photography. Go physical shopping and find your favourites.

PickAChew · 21/01/2022 23:10

John Lewis calia is lovely and great quality but a, different vibe from that kitchen. It's more "industrial"

Add colour and texture, where you can. Doesn't have to be garish colour but something muted will look better than the builder's off white walls.

PickAChew · 21/01/2022 23:11

And yes, plants add colour.

TheBeesKnee · 21/01/2022 23:12

What kind of style do you like, OP? Can you post a free screenshots of Pinterest kitchens you like/aspire to? Then we can think about how to get you achieve the look/vibe without destroying a lovely kitchen!

User2638483 · 21/01/2022 23:14

Agree it looks pretty nice
And tbh it’s kind of wasteful to do away with perfectly good stuff because you don’t like the colour or tone! Think about how you can make it work for you
