Plywood carpentry

I find the look of plywood cabinets/ carpentry from the likes of Uncommon Projects and Lozi Design quite interesting. There's a weight and grain to the furniture which appeals. It's a Victorian house it might be going in.

Has anyone got something similar and could comment?

Don’t do it. It’s not in keeping with Victorian fixtures at all as they used solid wood. I’d only use the stuff if it were in a Scandi style mountain lodge or cabin.

I can't picture they type of furniture that you're talking about, but I don't agree with the poster above - I like to mix and match different styles and periods. We have a fair amount of ercol/mid-century furniture on our Victorian house, mixed with older and more modern periods.

Victorian interiors were dark, fussy overcrowded monstrosities to my eye, certainly not something I'd want to recreate - put what pleases you in your home!

I had a birch faced ply kitchen made to my specifications for an 1800's house. I loved it! The carcasses are solid as. No, wasn't in keeping with the house but then neither were fitted kitchens anyway. I was so bold as to have an actual bathroom rather than a tin bath in front of a fire, maverick.

Thank you for the input. No I'm definitely not trying to recreate faux Victoriana in the house and I'm fully supportive of mix and match. I actually think the visible grain of plywood actually works very well. What doesn't work (for me) is the plasticy texture of sprayed MDF but that's another story.

We went to the manufacturer's workshop last week and the quality of construction was very good - solid, heavy and practical.
