Megaflo?

Hi all

I moved into our house two year ago and there is a megaflo fitted which has been great. However since xmas our water pressure has been dropping in the bathroom.

Our plumber thinks that the disc has broken inside as he keeps resetting the bubble but after a couple of week the pressure drops again.

It was fitted in 2003, so is possibly still under g/tee. However I cannot get through to heatrae sadia (waited 1hr 20mins today Shock)

Any advice?
Pigletjohn maybe?

For background we live in a four bed house with one family bathroom and downstairs toilet.

It is 20 years old? That sounds pretty old to me.

It might be that your title is not very clear. I thought it was going to be a "should I get?" Kinda question. Are you asking what is likely to be wrong with it?

chunkiest · 20/01/2022 20:37

Hi, yes it is still under guarantee (25yrs).

We have them calling out tomorrow, the manufacturers.

Will update.

Asking for advice really as unfamiliar with unvented systems Smile

I am not qualified on unvented cylinders, but I have heard people grumbling that the diaphagm breaks down with age. I hear bits of it sometime get stuck in taps

other designs have a separate stainless steel pressure vessel, which sounds to me like it would be less trouble.

chunkiest · 21/01/2022 07:57

Thanks pigletjohn our engineer has one with an expansion tank(?)

I will see what engineer says today, I suspect, due to age, it may be unrepairable

Appreciate people's views 😊

I have a megaflo and have been told it needs an annual service. I might bend that a bit when it's new but by 20 years I'd definitely be getting it regularly looked at.

PigletJohn · 21/01/2022 10:41

An external one is a separate unit, so if it ever goes wrong you just unscrew it and fit a new one, which is not much trouble.

Update~
Visit from Baxi/Heatrae Sadia and they are going to replace it as the diaphragm has gone, and it cannot be repaired. Still under guarantee Smile

Very good news.

And good service from Sadia

Perhaps they have a view on the diaphragm problem. It must be costing them a lot. Try to find out if the new one has an improved design.

Thanks pigletjohn we were very surprised, but happily so!

We now have to find someone to fit it, I guess they need to be G3 competent? Is there a register?

They are often gas boiler engineers, and will show it on the Gas Safe listing.

The person who maintains your boiler may have it. This enables you to have them both looked at on the same visit.

Thanks pigletjohn

Thanks everyone who replied 😊

pigletjohn
How long do you think this would take to fit and how much could we be expected to pay?

I have four quotes and they are VERY different 😞

@chunkiest can I ask how long it took to replace and how much they charged you as it sounds like we may have the same problem as you
thanks

chunkiest · 08/12/2022 09:01

sunsnowsun

It had to be condemned by baxi then a new one ordered

They would not fit it, just supply

Great service as it was over ten years old

Baxi are hard to get hold of on phone lined but great product

PM me if you want more info
