How do you fix the hardboard bottom of a drawer?

It's bowed

I have between 5 & 10 mm to play with

Could replace it with some pine cladding I have but that's a lot of measuring and sawing

Is there a quicker fix?

Have you taken it out and turned it upside down? I've done this with some glue in the grooves and a weight to hold it in place till it sets before.

If you search for drawer repair wedges on Amazon you can buy cheap little plastic screw in wedges to fix this problem. I used these successfully on a divan bed drawer that had bowed.

Screw batons of wood in to support it.

I'll Google the Wedges

Turning it upside down is an interesting idea thanks

There isn't much room to screw batons in to - where we're you thinking? Underneath the bottom, I could screw in through the back but nothing at the front?

If you use a little angle bracket you can probably attach the batten on the inside of the drawer front by screwing into it from the back. Be careful they don't come through to the front though!

Then again, the batten only really needs to stiffen the base that's already there, not attach it to the front/back. It can probably work okay if you just screw through the base into the batten. Seeing the heads of the screws on the inside of the drawer probably doesn't matter too much, but you can put in a drawer liner to cover them if needed.

I even put a batten inside the bottom of the drawer before now, when there wasn't enough space underneath on the outside.

That makes sense - I'll get DH to have a go, thanks

I don't do sawing as I have bad wrists; but I plan and coordinate all diy!

I’ve used these and haven’t had any problems since:
