How do you know where is ok to hang pictures?
So you don't bang into a pipe or something?

Radiator pipes will generally come from the floor up. Occasionally water pipes might run in the wall in older houses but not often.

Light switches are usually fed from above, sockets from below.
You can get gadgets to check service runs for you if you want to be on the safe side.

What are service runs?

And what are these gadgets please?

Pop into Wilkos and log in with the tools, you run the device over the bit of the wall you want to hammer a nail into, there are 2 types, either an electronic one that beeps if it detects metal or a magnetic one that sticks to the wall if there's metal there. It will be less than £10.

Unless it’s incredibly heavy, I’d look at using command strips, they’re all I use now! I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Make sure both surfaces are clean, and they’re incredible. If you want to move it, no holes in the wall or damage, and no worry about hitting things drilling through the wall!

Second the command strips. Unless it's mirrors I use them all the time now.
