Hello :) we have nowhere to put a kitchen bin so are looking at having a pull out in cupboard bin, my question is if you have one and it's great quality what brand is it please? There are so many out there and out kitchen supplier advised us to look online as theirs sells for £350! Tia

We have the IKEA Hallbar caddies, stored under the kitchen sink: www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/hallbar-waste-sorting-solution-with-pull-out-light-grey-s09308825/

They’re quite small but we have four so really good for separating out trash / recycling / food waste. They’re sturdy, they clean easily, the runners they move on have a smooth mechanism and if the going rate for some is £350 then they’ll leave you with about £300 to spend on something you’ll enjoy looking and and using more!

We had a cupboard bin, forever emptying it, bought a new bin in the end.

Does it fit well under all the plumbing under the kitchen sink? I have been looking for an under sink bin but no one seems to do one that fits all the plumbing etc......

I am the same as OP and when the new kitchen is done we will have nowhere for the bin to go.

Hafele

get the one with the door attached to the metal frame, pull-out not hinged

a biggish general waste bucket and (depending on your lifetyle) a smaller one for recycling and/or bottles.

ProudThrilledHappy · 11/01/2022 09:49

We have this, the bins are a reasonable size compared to some other cupboard bins

Hopeandglory · 11/01/2022 10:22

I have the same a Piglet John's recommendation, 2 equal sized bins in a 500mm cupboard (not under the sink). Both bins take 45ltr bin bags. Love that the bins are large enough not to need emptying every 5 minutes but not too big that they become smelly.

minipie · 11/01/2022 10:32

We have the top one on this page

It needs a 600mm cabinet but takes 2x 40L bins (one for normal rubbish one for recycling). Also comes in smaller versions or versions divided into 4 compartments if you need that.

winnieanddaisy · 11/01/2022 11:07

We have a Wren kitchen and we have a 800mm bin unit which is built in as part of the kitchen . It has 3 decent size bins in it . We use as general waste , recycling and food waste .

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 11/01/2022 11:35

We have the Hafele one too, but our cupboard door is hinged. I’d go for the pull out door as PigletJohn recommends, as the door gets opened a lot and our hinges ended up getting a bit wobbly.

You can fit a lot of kitchen rubbish in the main bin (we don’t use the smaller ones, but you could put your recycling in there). We dumped our big 60 litre bin as nowhere to put it and found we ended up getting more in the built in bin.

PigletJohn · 11/01/2022 12:48

the sink, and its associated pipes, take up too much room. You can fit one under a drainer though.

Pootles34 · 11/01/2022 12:53

We have one of the Hafele ones - it's really excellent, much better than I thought it would be. Maybe empty every other day? But it's much easier than emptying a big one, so it's a quick job.

Ours fits under the sink, and our kitchen fitter put a little shelf on top so we fit cleaning stuff around the plumbing bits.

Incidentally the Hafele book is amazing - I think there were 30 odd pages of bins, you can tell they like recycling in Germany! I think you could kill someone with that book.

alpinia · 11/01/2022 12:56

I have one of the Hafele pull out ones with three sections. It takes up the bottom 2/3 of a cupboard.

Really happy with it, good quality and holds plenty.

onedayoranother · 11/01/2022 13:39

I love all the ones I've had, one from an independent company the current one from Howdens. The mechanics are the same though.

Amber17 · 12/01/2022 11:51

We got a Hafele for the recycling as it has to be separated into two containers so a multi-container bin made it much easier. Got it for £80 on ebay as it had a very slight dent in the front and the box was battered, worth every penny (even the v reluctant stingy DH agreed).

I had this one installed about 6 years ago. It is excellent. Large bin for waste and 2 smaller ones for cardboard and glass.

yikesanotherbooboo · 12/01/2022 19:32

We e have Hafele pull out too.
It's our second and works very well.

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 12/01/2022 19:34

If you get a Hafele look for the kick step one - there's a pedal you press to open the door so you can put stuff in the big when your hands are both full

NotMeNoNo · 12/01/2022 19:52

Previously we had an 800mm sink with an IKEA pull out under it, you have to make sure the sink waste is neatly done but we fitted 3 big containers in. Now we have two big 33L bins in a 450 pull out unit like the binopolis ones, all our recycling is collected mixed so no need for separating.

Zinnia · 12/01/2022 21:56

We have a Haefele (or v similar) pull-out in a 300mm unit for general waste, then Ikea Hallbar ones not on the runners under the sink for recycling. Can just about fit one for paper, one for bottles and a small compost bin under our 600mm butler sink allowing for pipe work.

NotMeNoNo · 13/01/2022 10:54

A cheaper hack is a version of the Ikea style ones where the bins sit basically in a deep drawer with a high front - for instance two pan drawer fronts fixed together. You can get the bin inserts from Ikea, Brabantia or use any containers you like. It gives you a bit more flexibility than the ones where the bins pull out on runners at the top.

We have this in a deep drawer under the sink. Fits x4 large ish bins

Otherwise for a door, have you looked at brabantia. You can add door bracket to theirs
